Hi We went on a reasearch trip to WA/Perth in October with a view to find out where to live and to find the right school for our 7 year old. Your budget will make a difference to where you want to live. Dalkeith, Claremont and around Mosman are good areas but will cost you to live there. They are quite expensive. Apparently immed. north of the river is better than immediate south of river if you are staying close to Perth. Obviously the further inland from the coast is also cheaper, but you are never that far from the sea anyway. Further up Joondaloop area is very cheap and where alot of Brits live.
If you have children and want them to continue/start with private/independent education you should register while you are there. We have paid registration fees for 6 schools to cover a few areas and my son will not be able to enter any of these schools for another year or more which is disappointing for us. Thus we are delaying our move until the right school is available. If anyone else out there knows more about the independent schools, let us know. From our numerous visits to schools in Aus, even the most prestige/elite schools out there seem to be rather 'laid back' compared to my son's current school in England, very strict, disciplined, over the top academic, stressed kids with too much homework!!! Any info or views would be useful. Also of course I can offer some advice to anyone about the particular experiences I have had trawling around lots of schools all over the place! My son was tired of visiting schools.
WA/ Perth house prices have risen dramatically and are now just behind the top city in the list - Sydney. No cheap bargains. We drove around lots of areas so if you name any we may be able to give a comment. What seems far away on a map is actually rather near and compact in a car.
Sorry about my focus on schools, detoured rather from the main subject
