Smile primary teaching in rural WA?

Hi, I have recently retrained and qualified as a primary school teacher in order to get the family over to Australia.

I went to the immigration event that was held in Esher in Surrey and met representatives from WA. They were running a scheme whereby they would give you a job in WA. The main condition was that you could be offered a 'rural job' anywhere in WA which you would have to take.

My biggest concern is that I have a young son (3yrs) and worry that the school experiance I could offer him in a rural primary school could be limited. Has any one got experiance of primary schools either teaching or as a parent?

Can't wait to get on that plane!

Mary:)

I have traveled a lot over the years with my husbands work, with kids in tow. We have been to some remote areas of WA and my children now grown up, say that was the best years of their lives, seeing so much more of Australia, people as well as places, than any of their friends. I would say while your children are young go for it, it all adds to lifes experiences. Once my eldest child started High school I stayed in the metro area though. Rural area can be a little as an hour drive from Perth in a country town with one school, other areas can be an hour plane ride from Perth in a larger town with a few schools.
I would say go for it and enjoy the journey. Some of the best family times were spent in the Northwest of WA.

Do you have a partner? Will they be able to work where you get a posting. Some of the remote postings, particularly in the north west can come as a shock to folks not used to 45 degree heat or cyclones or towns with a permanent population of 8 and no where else to go and no other people to see within a 2 hour drive.

Going bush in WA can be a great experience, but it is certainly not the thing for many people including a good number of the locals. My advice is to think carefully about who you are and how well you adapt to vastly different cultures.
