Property In Perth

I am shocked about the sizes of the blocks in Perth, there pumping more and more blocks of land out at just under 500sqm I think thats shocking......also I have seen blocks as little as 200sqm....and by god thats tiny ! hahahaha anyone got any views on this topic?

It goes like this.. 15 years ago 1025sqm (1/4 acre block) was the standard block size, this went down to 900sqm, 700sqm and the average new block now is about 500sqm. personally I don't trust the construction of the new houses here and certainly wouldn't like to have a block this small therefore go for at least a 10year old house.. which BTW is an OLD house here in Rockingham with a decent package of land and also a double brick construction..Much bettwer quality.

Yes I aggree with you 100% there Tim, The only problem is people are snapping up these propertys quick knocking them down and building 2 houses on them....... in my honest opinion they will end up like british houses all crammed together......

Hi Scott,

You started something with the pauline Hanson thread!! Anyway I totally agree with you, was looking at a new house but the plots are far too small though there are some to be found on bigger lots. We are looking around the 700sqm size so have to agree with Tim we are going to go for an older house and renovate it to our taste, my OH not too pleased just finished our house in the uk and he will have to start all over again!!

Marina.

The plots used for new builds are definately becoming smaller and they seem to put as big a house that they can, leaving very little garden. I have a friend who is renting in Secret Harbour and they have a lovely large house, but the garden is almost like a little courtyard. I`ve noticed too that driving past some of the new estates the roofs are almost touching the garden fence, I think it will soon become more common to see more 2 storey housebuilds (although in saying that, friends tell me that it is much more expensive to build a 2 storey??). Im in an older suburb near Rockingham and we have a massive garden which I love, I guess it depends on whether a garden is really important to you.

We too bought an older house and agree that whilst the new builds look magnificent and very big - they're literally back to back with their neighbours. The 500sqm blocks seem to be all house. With two children we wanted a garden where they could play. We lived in a new house in the UK and I said that I didn't really want to live on an estate again. Marina, we're currently renovating one of the bathrooms (dark brown tiles and orange unit had to go!!),

Ali,

Just as you change it they will probably be back in fashion again!! It is hard reovating when living there but I would much prefer an older house, our house in UK is over 100 years old and still going strong.
