Hi

We are currently looking at Joondalup, Rockingham, Mundurah, Duncraig areas.

Had some really positive feedback from employers re. positions for Gasfitter/Plumber which is great. My OH knows that he will need to do some training etc once we arrive - do you know what's involved and how long it takes?

Thanks.

Hi I'm just joining here to say that I've heard you having to pay schooling fees if on temp visa and private medical insurance. Have you heard that? Also if you are renting out UK property you may have to pay capital gains tax once you sell.

Hi all
Interesting thread guys. Oh is a plumbing/heating engineer and has been for 24 years and is currently ruinning his own business. However he's well aware and totally accepts that he'll need to do further training in Oz. He was just a bit worried that he'd end up in college with a load of 16 year olds(he is 42) but after reading this I can tell him he'll more than likely be studying with you lot! Good luck to everyone

Have sent you a lengthy pm................. should put you in the picture somewhat?

Will try glean some more useful info and send same way.

Tell hubby not to dwell too much on future training requirements........... he'll be able to complete same standing on his head

On principal I opted to not partake in any further training; reasons being I had been in the industry since 1964, I had taught plumbing in several countries, had taught a silver medal Skill Olympics apprentice recipient. Had taught plumbing apprentices to an Australian Standard Syllabus in an Australian Minesite ......... albeit overseas, plus I was knocking on in years

I love plumbing as it has been very kind to me and has taken me allover the world....... not to worry though...........no regrets!!!

Good Luck

Hi Berrys

I have just seen your message, and thought I should say hello as I am in a very similar situation. I am a midwife moving to Perth as soon as the hospital can get the sponspoship underway!! I am on my own with 3 children (14, 16, 18), and have never been to Australia either. Although we are now divorced my husband was a gas fitter/plumber. Which hospital are you going to be working at?

Hi everyone, we now have arrived in Perth, living with friends in Singleton but this friday will have our own rental in singleton. Got children sorted out for schools. Thats the easy bit my husband and I have just got to sort work out although Russ my husband is a plumber so should be ok, out of interest if anyone is already in Perth in the Mandurah and Rockingham area and knows of anyone requiring a plumber perhaps you would let us know. Russ my husband has done nothing but plumbing since 1982 and has whilst in the UK built his own business up. He realises he will probably have to take extra courses here in perth to work as a plumber.

Hi Cheryl

We are in the process of migrating to Perth (hopefully Sept/Oct 2008). We have received successful confirmation of STNI visa and our 176 visa application was sent online on 22nd November. We are currently waiting on Police checks and our medicals are booked for January 2008. Just wondered how you are finding Perth as the area you are in is where we are also looking. My OH is a Gasfitter/Plumber and I am really worried that he will have probs securing employment until he has obtained relevant licences and/or completed a training course.

I am really getting apprehensive about the whole move thing - although I know still a long way to go it really seems scarily real now!! We have 2 children - 11 and 4 and haven't really looked into schools/pre school yet - difficult when you are not quite sure where you will end up.

Anyway, would be good to hear your views.

Thanks.

Hi Helen,

We are good thanks, and are settling in now in our rental we are in Singleton my daughter is a singleton primary school which is a lovely school, singleton is a lovely community. I was like you very worried but you have alot to think about so you are bound to think like that, but i can assure you once you are over here we have found everyone so helpful and friendly certainly not like the uk. My older son 15 goes to Mandurah Baptist College and is very happy made lots of friends, i was concerned about the children but they are very happy.

As with regard to work my husband has found there is loads of work, but he has had to do courses to get his licence then you get better money, so money not good to start off with.

House prices we have found are coming down, the houses are just not selling at mo they went up last year silly money, so buyers market at mo.

Hope medicals go ok we moved out in october it was a good time as weather just warming up you can then get used to it, although its been only 20c last few days quite chilly near ocean cant believe im saying this but needs to warm up a bit.

Good luck

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl

Thanks for your reply - good to hear that it is all working out well for you. Did your husband manage to get on the courses quite easily - how long were they and were they expensive??

We are seriously thinking about coming over in July/August next year in order to validate our Visas and have a good look around. Ideally, we just wanted to up and go but just a bit apprehensive that if our visa is granted say in April and the house goes on the market at the same time - if it doesn't sell or the whole process takes too long we may not be ready to go out before 3 Dec 08 which is when our Police Checks expire. Anyway, it is another option to think about.

Also good to hear house prices coming down too!!

Have a great Christmas and hopefully chat to you again soon.

Regards

Helen
