I think you will be telling Northwood Letting Agency to sell your property in the UK as you will just fall in love with Perth.

Tell hubby there are a lot of former gas fitters from the days of William Press gas conversion days back in the UK.......... and they easily adapted to the WA style of plumbing/gas fitting. Being a fair dinkum gas fitter he should slot in nicely over here.

Tell Russell he won't need his bending springs over here.......... that's metric or Imperial. They use a Rigid type tube bender here and coils of soft copper as opposed to the 22' lengths.

They do a lot of silver soldering........... no such thing as a lead to copper ferrule so he won't need his wiping cloths either. CIG are the equivalent of British Oxygen downunder; threads are the same so BO gear can screw direct onto CIG bottles.

G'uday Russ

Your license........ or lack thereof is going to be a burden initially.......... followed by your lack of WA experience. Once over that initial obstacle you'll be laughing!

The annoying thing is......... the plumbing is as rough as guts............ real cowboy stuff........ yet you and me cannot ply our trade because we don't have a licence? I'd done plumbing since 1964.............. never done anything else......... yet I wasn't qualified to work here?

Once you get to know the ropes though it's not that bad. I'll get back to you on rates and what have you........... best bet is for you to go subbing once you've learned the ropes. Pick up your own ABN and then you are laughing.

Have to go to bed as it's way after 3 in the morning.......... I'll get some more valid info for you plumbers and post it on site.

Hijack!

Hi,

Hope you don't mind us joining in here - Kirsty and I have been over for nearly two years and have set up a property renovation business. We have had enormous challenges finding quality tradies. For example, we have a good (English!) plumber who has worked for us on a several houses / subdivisions. Unfortunately, he is now so busy that when we called to book him in early July, we could only get him for two days in September, and that's it for the year..

Bobcat is spot on about the quality of work. If you know what you're doing, are reliable, and don't mind working, you'll be a great demand very, very quickly.

So, whilst we only have occasional work (roughly an average of one week every three months) we'd love to hear from anyone who works in the Perth area.
We're friendly, pay immediately, and can even get you references from our plumber!

Cheers,

Rob

PS
We're also quite friendly when not at work, so feel free to get in touch..

Hi Berrys,
Just to say we're doing the same. We asked Northwood to come out and look at our house & get an idea about what the rent would be (would it cover the mortgage?) & level of service The person we spoke to was very helpful, even though we knew we needed the full management service, he had to go through all his spiel. We have found that they are the only company in our area that garantees the rent payments, (which don't quite cover the mortgage unless we change to interest only). My advice, for what its worth, is shop about & compare.

Hi there

My OH is also a Gasfitter/Plumber and we are currently in the process of completing a State/Territory nominated Visa for Perth, WA. We have to provide evidence of his job in demand in WA so I have been busy firing off emails to Plumbing companies inquiring as to potential opportunities for employment out there. Have only received one response so far basically saying nothing at the mo' but changes all the time and contact before we come out there.

Good luck with your job search and your new life in Perth? Which area are you hoping to settle in?

TRA sent: 2nd August
Ack. received: 21st August
TRA Passed: 24th August

STNI - currently in the process of completing.
