Hi Alan
Where abouts are you renting. (You're not staying in Flint Court by any chance are you?)
The schools do have catchment areas apparently. My children are 12 and 7 and both go to Leeming Primary School. Before we arrived I emailed the 3 primary schools in Leeming Banksia (didn't reply), West Leeming (who told me it would depend where I lived) and Leeming Primary - who replied with a really informative email telling me what years the children would be in etc. First impressions count and after a number of emails with the principle (who set up a pen pal for Alex my eldest), we decided that the kids would be comfortable and looked after.
The children have really settled there Tom 7 who was indifferent to school in UK "loves" it - I never thought I would use that word in a sentence about Tom and school!!. Education is more relaxed here and I'm trying to take the same approach - the children are relaxed, happy and learning, it's just not as regimented as in the UK with lots of homework. Tom doesn't think he's done any mental maths here, but it's obvious from some of the activities he's done that he has - it's just not been done in a 'test setting.
The website for the school is
www.leemingps.det.wa.edu.au and you can email the principle at
Leeming.PS@det.wa.edu.au The principal is called Graeme Sassella-Otley
There are lots of children from different nationalities starting at various times and you're never the 'new kid' for long.
Alex is going to Leeming High School in January which has a good reputation and is looking forward to that.
If I or the kids can be of any help, please just ask. I'll also get you some groceries for your arrival if you need me too!!
Ali
