Hi Tracy,
We have been here for 4 months living in Silver Sands, Mandurah. We don't have any children, so can't give info on schools etc. I could always ask people at work any of these types of questions for you. The parks and facilities for children/teenagers seems good and we have been impressed by how well the public facilities are maintained. It's growing fast and loads of development. It is a fisherman's paradise with lots of waterways/estuaries/beaches. This summer has been very hot with hardly no rain - flies have been the worst they had had in years(Dec/Jan), mosquitos have also been the worst(Feb/March). There is a new train service opened in Dec which travels through to Perth(1hr, it's great and cheap).
The downs - not a good time to ask as I'm missing the UK terribly, even though I'm originally from S.Africa. The young people drive too fast in very noisy cars, most drivers have no idea about cyclists and believe they shouldn't be on the roads! I don't find the Australians very friendly and very agressive generally. We have both found it difficult getting jobs and employers don't acknowledge job applications and one didn't even tell me the outcome of interview. Estate Agents don't give personal service and you have to fit in with them for viewings. So as I said I haven't found my feet yet, so take all this with a pinch of salt!
All the best, Acacia
