Still work to do on skills shortage 11 May

DESPITE more than 500 people a week crossing the border in search of work, the skills shortage was still one of the Carpenter Government's biggest hurdles, Treasurer Eric Ripper said yesterday.

In announcing the record $3.3billion allocation to education and training, Mr Ripper said several major capital works projects had to be put on hold because there were not enough skilled and unskilled workers.
