Thanks for that Asylon, I was forgetting that the houses are bigger so you can keep stuff inside. Going to have to swot up on the species as I just know that the tiny terror's going to bring things inside and oh is terrified of spiders over here as it is! I have heard that people go around bare foot and even outside in pj's in broad daylight, so I dread to think what she's going to come out with in one of those kiddie remarks you dread!
Many thanks for the reply, Mx

They do, I was in the front garden the other day when I realised I was only wearing a bra and shorts. It's hot here you see...
I think the tree frogs and geckos eat most of the nasties for us here anyway. We have 4 or 5 resident geckos in the house, I love them, not sure how much of a hazard lizzard poo is to the kids, they probably carry salmonella or something. And the tree frogs are just gorgeous

Hi Jacky and gang - pic of bluecottle jellyfish for ye :-

they look innocent enough - don't they !

We have friends + 4 x kids in karalee, near Brisbane, and the only nasties they have seen in their house or outside are giant cockroaches and some ants. Cant be very nice to come across the roaches -- maybe they just came in to eat the ants ?!

Hi all,

Great replies to help spot what kiddies should be avoiding although those blue jellyfish look weird. On a cute note though are there bumble bees or is it too hot for them. (Allergic so would be a bonus not to have to look for them all year!)

Cheers, M x

There are.Bees. But you can can notify your school and the kids allergic to bees can carry their own epipens (0.2mg 1,1000 adrenaline) quite common here; and if your child doesnt carry it, the school will anyway. Graham

Don't know. Not seen any.
My husband says not. Havn't seen any UK style wasps either.
Was chatting to a bloke from some conservation group the other day who was trying to get money out of me to save the Daintree rain forest, where we live, he was from Melbourne, anyway, my 3 year old said " whats that?", pointing to a picture of a tropical wasp, he said "a bumble bee". I told him it wasn't and he admitted he hadn't a clue. Back to that old personal opinion chestnut again.

Hello again - I wonder if wackyjackys tiny jellyfish were actually blue ringed octopus !!!!!
could easily be mistaken for jellyfish at the size of a fingernail !

They grow from the size of a pea to about the size of a golf ball ... and have enough poison to kill ap to 26 adults. Dont mean to scare ye !! I'm sure what you saw was completely harmless ....... ?!

Check pic and reduce down to fingernail :-

And I'll be round to fit that snake flap in your front door at the weekend !!
