We just got our house sprayed for ants, cockroaches, mozzies, spiders and just about anything with more than 4 legs. It cost $180 and was worth every penny, they do the outside of the house and the garage too. It's the flaming ants that will do your head in, about 100 of them on my bathmat the other morning where someone had dropped a tiny crumb of something. It's guaranteed for 6-12months.
We were assured it is fine for children and pets, we have 2 of the former, none of the latter, unless you count the geckos and tree frogs.

Countdown to Christmas.......24 days
Hi we stayed in Ocean Reef and Currambine - there we lived on the edge of a golf course and you get lots of snakes there- amazed me how people went after there balls in the undergrowth!! We had a snake on our patio which was fine we just watched it out of the window. We had two kangaroos on our patio. We saw lots of red back spiders but when you live with it day in day out you soon learn to get on with it and it does not seem so scarey.
You will be fine! Wild life is amazing I loved the birds - not the crows though so noisy I can hear them now, like they are laughing at you!!
This is great news for me - not the brightest .....
“Oh look at the lil’ blue jellyfish, aint it pretty ... Ouch!”
“Oh lil’ blue jellyfish, pretty ... Ouch!”
“blue jellyfish, it pretty ... Ouch!”
“pretty ... Ouch!”
I suppose the moral of the story is look but don't touch !!
One for Toughspiders - No sign of any Mooses here - all clear !

Bloody hell!! I'm still in uk and not scared of any creepy crawlies ( actually place them outside for safety))) But now looking at size of shoe I have and OH has to which one I'm gonna use to bash them in OZ and say "god loves you" at same time and no I'm not religious just feel for killing an innocent creature but protecting my family at same time!!!!
Hubby says zero tolerence is good!!! dont care I love all creepy crawlies just not in my house, thats all not a killer by birth!!!!
I dont kill anything in england I put them to a safe place eg woodlice, chase bees out of house, redirect ants etc this is not good for me I know once I'm in oz and will go against all my beliefs that everyting deserves a chance and will have to change my views!!!! I'm such a sapp I knowwwww!!!
hi ian thanks for the info on deadly animals i feel so much better now i know wot to look for!! couldnt see the news item it didnt show on net would like to know if it was the ones we saw! reallt need pictures of them all so i can show the kids, we havent seen anymore on burns beach .....yet! although we have heard that a shark has been spotted and being followed in the south of perth just hope he stays down there!!!! cheers
Hi all, just a quick question about the spiders as the snakes are a lot easier to see! What do you do about outdoor kiddie toys as I'd imagine they'd be a magnet for the little blighters? Also do the regions have different nasties or are they all the same?
Hi Michelle,
About the different regions having different nasties bit... I thought that as we are up here in Far North Queensland we were safe from the Sydney Funnel Web, I even checked on the net and looked at a map of it's distribution. But...when we had the bug man round for the fumigation he told me no, they are here too and there are many species of funnel web. So now I don't know what to believe. The major problems is you are going on other peoples' oppinions all of the time. My husband is Australian. He was totally unaware that there are 6 species of tarantula up here and they stretch as far south as Victoria, so asking an Aussie doesn't necessarily help.
What I can tell you is this, we have been here about 2 months now, I check the kids' garden toys constantly and we have not seen a single spider. Also certain garden toys are now kept in the house as there is acres of space, so some of the ride ons are now indoors, spotlessly clean after shipping them so it seems a waste to get them dirty. All the local kids here run about constantly with no shoes on and nobody worries about a thing, I'm not quite at that stage yet, still won't let them on the grass unless well shod.
I am the biggest arachnaphobe going and was worried sick over how I would cope here, with the kids especially, since being here it has totally gone out of my mind. I even did some gardening yesterday without gloves!
Had 1 mozzie bite , we do not use repellant. Seen 1 snake in the rain forrest and 1 cassowarry (WOW!) and havn't seen the local crocs yet, always hiding when I go by the golf course.
Now the stinger nets are up, from 1st November, we do not go to the beach but up 'till then we swam every morning. Havn't actually seen any jellyfish up here but have seen beaches south of Sydney littered with bluebottles (portuguese man of war). I think the box jellyfish and Irukanje would be too small to see anyway.
Still feel like I'm living in paradise!
