its best to leave cockroaches alone or just put them outside because if you stand on one or squash one all the eggs come out and you will cause more cockroaches. even if you put them in an open fire the cockroach will die but the eggs wont.

It's not normally harmful to pets.

It's quite funny that people from outside Oz worry about spiders and snakes. I was in Canada a couple of years back and this couple were telling me that they won't go to Australia because it was too dangerous with all the spiders, snakes, sharks and things. This was the same day that someone was killed by a bear and another was attached by a moose. I can't remember the last time I heard of a spider or snake attacking anyone....they usually on bite when a person invades there space and won't leave them alone. Worst things are the mozzies and flies in spring because of their nuisance value.

Did you know that a cockroach can live for 10 days without a head! Amazing little things that crunch when you stand on them. Buy yourself a couple of cockroach baits, put them around the house & you'll probably never see one.

Hi all spider lovers ..
Got a picture of white tail for wackyjacky
try www.xs4all.nl/~ednieuw/australian/Spidaus.html for more pics of nasties !

Do not know how dangerous the whitetail is - best to have a zero tolerance approach me thinks !!

Could be worse - you could be attached to a Moose.

...my OH was actually bitten by a red back!!...BUT he was invading its space..he worked in removal containers in Perth and went to lift something down and the blighter got him!..when he got back home it was pretty painful so we called the local nurse and she wasn't fazed at all..said he was a big bloke and to take some pain killers..in a couple of days 'should be right mate'!..after a few hours came up like a balloon and so went down to hospital where he did have to have a small op to relieve the swelling..spent a couple of days there...then bonus was he was put on light duties for several weeks!!..we'd seen plenty in the garden and that..just happened he put his hand somewhere he shouldn't!..i'm sure some folk think as soon as you step off that plane the spiders and snakes are everywhere...it only comes to mind when you actually see one..you soon get use to it..moral of the story..we're going back next year..wild horses wouldn't stop us and neither will those creepy crawlies...
