who says you don't need central heating ? Winters here are cold. Most expats I know talk about wanting double glazing etc. Other than that, I can't help I'm sorry
It is lovely during spring, summer and autumn but winter can be very cold especially at night. The wind whistles through the houses and you do need some form of heating.
Our family are in Queensland and Pauls mum has central heating in her new house..The winters can get cold and frosty in the mornings and at night..:)
Thanks Jo it gives me something to think about, we arent sure where to relocate to i dont mind as long as i can get work have you got any ideas. cheers Deano
Paul is a plasterer and so kind of in the same trade as you..He has spoken to many companies in the area we want to live and they have all said that as soon as we touch down they would like Paul to go see them with a view to employing him..This was great news at first as we were a little worried how we would survive without relying on the family too much..I think that many companies won't offer work as such until you are actually in the country..When we first started researching it we looked at the Australian yellow pages so that may help. We also looked at the local area newspapers ( which you can see online) sunshine coast daily is one...Just do a google search and see what comes up...We are lucky as Pauls brother has his own business and Paul will be working with him...I will add that Pauls brother moved out to Oz only 2 years ago and his business (building trade) is going great guns..
Good luck in your search :)
Cheers Jo that has put my mind at rest, it seems quite daunting packing up all your belongings to go half way round the world with out a job to go to. I have to remember i still have a 8 month old baby & fiancee to look after. Anyway thanks for your help & good luck in your venture keep in touch, Deano
You are very welcome..When we started the long walk to oz we were overwhelmed with all of it and never thought we could manage it..But with the help of this site we were able to think more positively, and felt really encouraged..At times you will feel that you are tearing your hair out, but if it is what you want then you have to keep at it..There have been tears, and stress as I am leaving my family behind along with 2 of our children..They are 21 and 18 and have their own lives but we will miss them terribly...

All the more reason why you should be going down there. Don't forget that gas is the preferred method of cooking. Even if central heating is not that common, space heating is and I'm sure that if you're a hard worker, you'll be fine.
