G'day Joanne
I guess the first thing is to know what you want from a school. Is it esential that the school has a Music program? if so what instrument(s)? Must the school have an aeronautics course? a fishing course? be a specialist languages school? are you looking for a Theatre Arts or Drama course? Should the school teach religion? if so, what religion? or denomination? Should the school prepare your child for the maximum range of possibilities or target only University entrance? Do you want a large school or a small school? Do you want a school that streams children? or amalgamates them? Is the cost of the school a factor?
Then I guess there's the issue of matching the school to the child. Has the child any special needs? are they Autistic, mobility impaired, academically gifted? sporting mad? academically challenged? creative and needing to find forms of expression? Is any special coaching or encouragement needed?
Yes it is hard to chose, but the starting point of that choice is YOU and your child(ren). Then find out if you hopes and expectations are appropriate. There is no point wanting your child to be a sporting superstar when they've got two left feet. There is no point wanting your child to be a lawyer if they don't enjoy reading. No point wanting them to be a physicist if they can' get the hang of mathematics.
Think about what's important and realistic, then you will know how to choose. Once you know what your choices are, tell us and we can say what schools might be best. But you must let us know first what you think comprises a suitable or good school.
