ermilion miles from anywhere

I really like the sound of Perth but my only concern is the isolation.I would really appreciate any views/advice/experiences of Perth as a place to spend the rest our lives.

regards,Lee

Hi

Well - speaking purely personally, I've been there a few times because my sister has lived there for 20+ years. It is FAR too remote for my own taste (and far too quiet at night.) I've been to Sydney once and fell in love on the spot. However, I couldnt see any point in leaving Blighty to live 3,000 miles away from my sister, and anyway I'm one of the dinosaurs who actually likes Blighty despite all its faults.

One thing I did rate Perth for was the food, though. The quality of the meat, fruit and veg was absolutely tip-top and the more so since it was nearly all locally produced. Eating out in Perth is a pleasure as well, with a huge range of cuisines and eateries to suit every pocket and mood, all of it superb quality.

Cheers

Gill

No-one should ever consider anywhere to spend "as a place to spend the rest our lives".

Always be open to move on again (if you wish), see more places, more life experiences etc etc.

Life is an adventure, and if we are lucky enough to see more of the world, then take the chances with both hands.

I've also heard that Perth is very isolated, and unlikely to be suitable for me, but I wouldn't mind an opportunity to live there for a year or two, just to find out and experience it for myself, even though I feel totally happy here in SE QLD.

Good luck with it all ;)

Personally,
I think Perth is great..its a city and has eevrything cities ave to moffer...but with the added bonus of being out in some of Australias best coastal regions in a matter of hours.

Having seen most of OZ, i narrowed it down between Cairns and Perth...Perth came first! I love it! 8)

Hi,

My first impression of Perth was how clean it was, the parks are fantastic and the lawns so kept.

I found Perth to be quiet at night but then again we were based in the centre, i suppose it's like any city centre place, people work in the city then head home towards the coast.

It is quite remote from the other parts of Australia but then again that could add to the appeal.

Weather was great and has a decent climate throughout the year.

Best of luck.

Hi all

I entirely agree, though last time Jim & I went to Perth we were so bored after 3 weeks that we ditched Perth and made an un-planned 2-week trip to Malaysia on the way back instead.

Back at home in the village in Blighty later, a lady I know from Friday nights in the local boozer said that there is a lively Red Light District in Perth or Freo - not sure which. Apparently that is open after 9pm, but Jim & I didn't manage to find it.

I did, however, find a stac k of postcards which I bought a job lot of and sent to my friends. The front was pitch black. The caption on the back read, "Perth By Night." That was about right, from what Jim & I found! :)

Gill
