We emigrated from the UK 3 years ago. We have a holiday house, 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, large garden, fully furnished, 5 minute walk from the beach in Secret Harbour. 40 mins south of Perth, half way between Mandurah and Rockingham. E-mail me if you are interested and I will send a brochure
We were going to check out Secret Harbour on our rekkie in Perth. However, we decided it was too far out (for my commute if we get in!) and we didn't have enough mileage on the hire car, so never made it. It seems like a lovely place from what I've seen on the net, but I did worry about the de-salination plant and lack of schools at this point. So we've decided on the northern suburbs now!
Hi I am from Scotland, and my daughter, son in law, and 2 granddaughters are immigrating to Perth, I am looking for help/advice on places to stay, etc.
thanks
Pat
HI PAT, OUR SON AND FAMILY IMMIGRATED TO MUNDARING (40MINS) FROM PERTH. JAN 2005. WE VISITED THEM IN JAN 2006 AND MUST SAY ITS A LOVELY PLACE. HE CHOSE TO LIVE IN THE BUSH PART BUT THERE ARE SOME REALLY BEAUTIFUL SUBURBS AND PROPERTY IS PLENTIFUL. THE CHILDREN HAVE SETTLED WELL. AGES 5YRS + 3YRS, AT A VERY GOOD LOCAL SCHOOL. HOPE ALL GOES WELL I WILL WATCH FOR NEWS OF YOU ALL REGAREDS E M S.
Depends were you are working really. It is probably a bit far if you are working in the city, but when the new train line goes in (possibly by this time next year) it will be alot easier and there is a staion pretty close to Secret Harbour. Mandurah and Rockinghamre both good places with good schools and facilities. Also very commutable to Kwinana which has lots of industry.
The Desal plant is a good way north and shouldn't effect Secret Harbour. They are talking about a second desal plant with one of 3 possible locations fairly close, but this is a contingency against another source - it will be at least 5 yeas anyway before this goes ahead if at all.
We live in the Northern suburbs - Duncraig. Strongly recommend but prices are going up very fast. North of Joondalup is a bit of a trek to get into town and don't know much about the suburbs there. Everyone said to us to make sure you are on the Ocean side of Marmion Ave (hillaries, sorrento, Kallaroo, Ocean reef. I would disagree - nice if you can afford it but I think the houses are overpriced, and if you have kids you will use the car to go to the beach unless you are right on the beach front ($1M + for houses!). It is worth trying to get on the Ocean side of the Mitchell Freeway - Duncraig, Carine, South Padbury. Greenwood (east of Mitchell) is good
Keep at it-the wait is worth it, weather is forecast for 30 today and we are almost in winter!!
It's beautiful here today too. Erm. Well, the sun is out and is quite warm I suppose! Not quite 30 though.....
I am likely to be looking for IT work, so I'm guessing that the best place to find work would be Perth rather than south of there. Having said that, if I can get a job further south, I'd probably take it.
Thanks for the information on Perth's northern suburbs. We visited Perth last month and had the same thoughts, so looked at areas between Marmion and the Mitchell Freeway. Duncraig was probably the most southerly of the places we could afford and the schools looked ok. Carine is just too expensive, whilst the other areas seemed to feed into Belridge or Clarkson high schools, which we didn't like. So when we get there we'll look at Kinross as we liked the schools there and they have a lower (yr1-yr4) and middle (yr5-yr-10) next to each other. We also liked Mindarie on the coast, but whilst we could just about afford somewhere now, we'll be unlikely to in 2 years time! And again the catchment area school is Clarkson.
Can you make the housing market crash there please as our house hasn't increased in value for 2 years and the exchange rate is getting worse. Taa!
