We need to be nearish to a hospital and also close to a beach. We have 3 small sprogs so want a child friendly area with a good local school etc etc...

Can't advise or suggest anywhere in Perth but I can recommend a website I found - www.aussiemove.com It's got info on all the suburbs of Perth and details of local schools and stuff so it might help. It also gives you an idea of what real estate prices are in the areas.

hi melanie, my wife's also a nurse, the four main hospitals are fremantle, perth general in the city and king edward/princess margaret (sort of between perth and freo). any of the places north of fremantle right up to to ocean reef would be a good bet i think. fremantle is wonderful, great for shops and nights out, markets etc, just north is cottesloe and city beach, great to live but i imaging expensive.
we lived scarboro' about 13 yrs ago, great beaches, good access and housing.. didn't think about schools then but most of the coast suburbs would be child friendly i'd say. we liked the areas aroud PM/KE, subiaco, claremont etc but very expensive. the further north you go from freo the higher house prices go . we have five children so affordable 5beds may be rare but four beds should be ok around £200000. we can't decide between perth and sunshine coast but if we decide perth I would go for trigg and north beach area, about 6/7 miles north of freo maybe but commutable to the hospitals. my wife drove into the city to perth gen and didn't find it a hassle, about 20-3- mins.
we visited in02 and last year and it still seems good. lots of parks & developed reserves, sporting areas, some natural bushland. play equipment on most reserves and playgrounds. lots of restaurants, shopping centres are at Karrinyup & Innaloo, the industraila bits are in Balcatta& Osborne Park. In the area there are many schools and colleges, one university campus and I think 2 technical education colleges.
Good luck!!

hi Billabong,
Many thanks for your reply,
Its so hard to make a decision when you have never been to the places..
Just dont know what to do really...Ocean reef sounds lovely but expensive and we were considering starting there as there is a good state school..
Any idea if there is a hospital in Joondalup which is quite near to ocean reef..
I guess it takes about 20 mins drive to perth central from ocean reef ??
When are you moving out there?
You seem to have spent a fair bit of time there??
We are waiting for our visa at the moment and hope to go out by july next yr...house sale permitting..
All the best
Melanie

Melanie,
I've a friend over who works at a private hospital in Perth, he tells me there is a hospital in Joondalup, used to be called Wanneroo Hospital but is now known as Joondalup Health Campus. Joondalup is only a mile or so from Ocean Reef and houses will be more affordable. All the other suburbs south of Ocean Reef are similar. Ocean Reef is quite a way up the coast from Perth, I'd say it's about 15 miles from Ocean Reef to Perth city, down the Freeway should take about 30 mins - but maybe more at peak times? My mate says there's a new rail link, 20 mins direct from Joondalup station.

We lived in Scarboro' for two years 90/91 and have visted family for hols three times since. I’ve looked at realestate.com.au to get an idea of house prices and it's a bit pricey now but I’d consider anywhere between Scarboro’ and OceanReef.
My wife has only just sent off her skills asssmnt so it's early days but a lot of feeddback I hear talks about 5 to 6 months for nurses as they are 'fast-tracked thru' the visa so hopefully next autumn.
She is keen on Queensland, she's got a friend there and a colleague from work is going to Brisbane in May. Perth will be a close second if we get the visa.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Melanie,
1) to get any where in perth is only a short drive
2) the public transport is great if there is a major event on its free
3) the beach is only a short drive from any where
4) looking for a property in perth is the same as in the uk, take your time donot rush
5) hillaries north perth is great, (moveing there next year)
6) most of all book 4-5 weeks just to spend time looking around, and enjoing yourself

Hello Melanie
My family and me moved to Rockingham last yea on the Anchorage estate. We are only 15 mins walk from lovely white sandy beaches 10 min walk from 2 good primary schools. Theres as couple of hospitals close by, one private, about 10 min drive. Loads of lovely parks for the kids.
hope this helps.

Hi I'm a nurse too in mental health. I live in Leeming south of river and work at Armadale and Kelmscott hospital. Leeming isn't far from Bull Creek, Willeton, Canning Vale. It takes me 25 mins to drive to work in Armadale, I'm 15 mins from the city (11 when the rail link opens), and 20 mins from Freo and the beach.

we're trying to get our sister site www.perthpoms.com used more with things to do with perth

Ali
