Hilarys/Jondaloop areas

hi my names Lucy, my husband is James and Lisa our seven year old.
We are planning to be in Perth late August or early September all being well but we originally thought we would settle in Queensland, but Perth seems to have more the lifestyle we are looking for.
We have been looking at hilarys or Jondaloop and surrounding areas and would love to hear from anyone in same situation.

Its all very real and very scarey at moment !!!!

Lucy

Hi Lucy,

Like you, myself and my boyfriend are in the process of migrating to Perth in August / Sept.
Well I say that but we haven't actually had the go ahead yet, but I'm ever the optimist - we've sent off our medicals & Police checks etc and after starting the whole process in March 04, we're hoping to get the all clear any day now! :?
How did you start the process off and how long did it take?
We're thinking of heading to the Freemantle area as it seems to have a bit more life to it and coming from London (now living in Glasgow) I think I'd miss the hustle & bustle but couldn't handle a big city again like Sydney.
It's an exciting time for us right now but I'm really not sure how much more my nerves can take!
It's be nice to hear back from you!

Ozchick x

Hi Lucy

My Husband and I and our two daughters (15 and 13) are hoping to move to perth by the end of the year. We also want to move to Jondeloop and have looked around houses there. We thought the area was lovely.

Hopefully see you there one day soon

Scary, I know we go in Jan 06 and I am already thinking, awhhhhhhh. It would be great to hear your fews on Perth after you get there and this is where my partner, Mark would like to end up, we have to live in Victoria for two years, part of our Visa approval. Good luck, and as my dad says just go and don't look back :D :D :D

How did you start the process off???

Hi Lucy
I would love to know what i have to do as we as a family have decided yesterday to emmigrate to Aus. I work in the oil and gas sector but not on rigs but Dive Support Vessels as a Remote Operating Vehicle technician. But my wife is a registered nurse and we get in on the point system with her alone. This is our first post in finding out on how to go about emmigrating and where to go so your help would be really appreciated. I need the oil and gas sector area and i dont think she would have a problem finding nursing work! we have 4 children of which the oldest is 10 so ideal before the oldest gets to senior school.

Is wise to go through a company where you pay full price or can you do it your self for emigration??
1. How do we start the process off and what are the steps to completion.
2. how much does this all cost
3. Where is the oil and gas sector situated
4. where would myself and the family stay before buying a house?
5. What is the average price a 3 bed house i would expect to pay for

my minds reeling and i could do with help from any one on what to do.

regards and keep smiling.

Hi Andy and welcome to the forum.... :D

I remember going through the same sort of questions when we started to apply in March last year. We are still waiting for the final clearance...any day now I hope!

As for your questions. The first place to start would have to be

www.immi.gov.au . The website of the immigration department should be able to answer most of your general immigration questions including what needs to be done and when. It also has all the necessary paperwork to get you started.

There's alot of it! so its worth spending a few hours finding out what to apply under!

If you are like us you could apply under the Skilled Independant category.

As for migration agencies, I'm guessing its up to your idividual circumstances, we didn't use one and did it ourselves without too much hassle but again it was just for the two of us so was fairly straight forward.

As for the costs....well at the moment it has cost us roughly £1500 this includes the Immigration fee (£750), signing of documents by a Notary Public (£100 approx), Meds and police checks (£500) and other bits and bobs i.e. passport photos, postage fees etc.

I'm in the marine industry too so I guess our fields are pretty similar!
Perth and the surround area is the place for offshore rigs / fpso's etc and the likes of both manufacturing and support. But Adelaide and Melbourne are hubs aswell.

As for accomodation it really depends on where you are settling but is probably a bit further down the line.

Any questions/ queries or other dilemas, post them here I'm sure someone will be able to help within our growing community! :D

Keep us posted

Tim

Hi andy
We used an agent, just for peace of mind. I looked at loads and decided
on George Lombard he was very good, all contact done via email. we got ours in just less than 5 months. cost us £1500 + $5000 bond as we are sponsored because we were 5 points short.

I worked offshore for a long time but have no idea about oil related jobs in perth but a s Tim said there are plenty of rigs etc further up the cost.

if you need any help just let me know..
been there done it and paid for the t-shirt

Hi All,

My name is Dominic (or Dom) I have just been offered a position in the Western Australia Police Service and have been told that vacancies should come up between now and twelve months. I'm hoping it is not too soon, as we still need time to think of any last minute reasons not to go and then sell the house etc. etc.
If I'm being sponsored by a Government backed organistaion, does anyone know how long it will take and without going through a visa company, is it still going to cost around £1500 to process our visa application?
When I was out for the interview I had time to explore and loved it. Having visted all the main Cities, except Adelaide, I cannot think of a better City. It is clean, Pretty, not too busy or noisy and fairly laid back. I have fallen in love with the place. The only thing is I might be further up or down the coast, but have been told by locals that any towns up and down the coast are gorgeous.
Bearing in mind that I was out there, two weeks ago, the equivalant of January 2nd here, it was still 19 degrees and people were on the beach in shorts and surfing.
Found a great place on the front at Freemantle, with a massive Tropical fish tank that sold Fish and Chips - the first choice being Snapper. Just a bit nicer than Cod or Haddock.
Good luck to all of you, it's a wonderfull place.

Dom

Hi Andy,
dont know if you are already aware of them but there is a company in Perth that might be right up your street so to speak. Might be worth contacting them to get a feel about employment opportunies.
