      Teaching Jobs in Western Australia

My partner and I are starting the visa process to move to Australia next year. We think we would like to live in Perth area.

My question is, is their a demand for Maths teachers. Or would we be better moving to another state.

      Any information would be grateful.

I can only teach Maths, but have my probation to teach Computing. I have been teaching for 8 years and taught all levels at Secondary in Scotland for 11-18 year olds, hoping that will be enough. I have emailed the teaching authority in WA.

Teaching isn't subject restricted in WA as in Scotland. As a maths teacher you could be asked to teach lower school Scicne, higher (WACE) physics and I know some maths teachers who teach Phys Ed as they are into sports.
I also know a Maths teacher who is teaching chemistry, another teaching computing and robotics and another teaching business and economics.

You will find it all a bit... different... I am a Scottish trained teacher and find the vagueness of the curriculum gives me a headache! Especially compared to Scotland's watertight expectations

You'd probably have more success moving out of Perth - all the big cities are well oversubscribed with teachers of all kinds so if you want to teach, look at the more out of the way places. You will be in with a head start though, having Maths in your toolbox but, as others have said, look to developing your skills in another subject area as well (the sciences are in demand)

Or you could register as a private tutor or set up your own Kumon or similar. Kumon is very popular here, possibly because the schools are not up to scratch! They are just implementing the National Curriculum here in WA but it will take 3 yrs before it is operational. Not sure why? Try Private/Independant and Catholic schools, as they appear better.
