WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi my name is paula.
i've been reading your messages for weeks the Q&A are brill,if this is long winded "sorry".
Im a nurse existing in the uk,me and my OH have been thinking of emigrating for years,
were both 44 and think its now or never,i've been thinking of emigrating on a sponsorship or would the 175 route be better, also my OH is gas fitter and also a coach builder he doesn't want to take the plunge unemployed any help from gas or coach men would be great or any of you knowlagable folks.
THANKS.
If I were you I would speak to a Migration Agent they would give you the best advice on which visa to go for, I am only saying this because of your age (sorry I know I shouldn't mention a ladies age) so you don't want to mess around. I would think that you would be fast tracked if you have the "correct qualifications" in nursing. My Sister's visa process took less then 6 months from application to landing in perth with a job!!
Hi Paula, If I were you (and I'm no expert) I would get a 457 (temp long stay business visa) on your skills, you could be there in as little as 3-6 months, you could apply for employer sponsored PR after 3 months with some employers. Given your age (and they are more lenient with nurses, I believe) it might be the best way around it. The independent route takes about 6-9 months I think but offers you more freedom/flexibility. Sure there will be others to give you their advice too. Gollywobbler, (Gill) is very clued up on visa options. Nurses seem to be in great demand, you wouldn't have any trouble getting a position I'm sure. Do it now before it's too late!! Good Luck Fiona

I am in the same predicament, I am 38 and hubby is 43 and next yr would be our deadline as daughter starts her A levels next Sept. I have the additional problem that my son started Liverpool Uni this year so would have to leave him behind. We are both in the construction industry (I am a Project Manager, OH is Commercial Manager) we haven't applied yet as a friend of ours went for a holiday this yr and 8 wks later is now a permenant resident working via employer sponsorship. We were hoping to go over soon and do a reccie. Has any one any advice on anything from A level studies, jobs to moving pets....Excited and confused.
