WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Melbourne Ahoy! Do you need to bring old Inland Rev doc's P45's etc?
Hi guys,
am bouncing round with joy at the arrival of our visa's - esp was worried about proving our de facto status. Our case mgr at immigration was brilliant though & kept us up to date by email ( my fella got sponsored e457 as engineer) so after weeks of uploading & emailing photo's to her we finally got the answer 2 days ago. Gald I am not getting left behind!
Does anyone know if you need to bring along original taxation documents from UK for registering with emp agy? Couldn't see this anywhere so if I am a big wally & missed it on this site pl tell me ;-)
Hello to all the Irish in melbourne .. another one on the way ;_)
Hi Karen , you will need to register for a Tax File Number (TFN) when hubby or yourself takes up employment in Oz , simple process can be done on line cant remember site but just google "registering for a tfn" it will appear lol , could even be on the Oz government site, we did'nt need our P45's or anything else, bring and keep them though in case you need to contact UK tax office , I am also led to believe (through posts in PIO ) that if you leave the uk part way through a tax year you may be able to claim some of your tax back not sure if it's a form 80 .... hopefully someone will come along from here and help you out We've been in Melbourne almost a year now we like it very much , where are you looking at staying .? I hope your move goes well and without to much stress lol .... take care and good luck ...... shirl
Arrived 16yrs ago, never needed our P45's for anything, but try to remember to bring a letter from your car insurance company stating what insurance discount premium you are on or else they will start you at a high rate, we did this and got a 60% no claims bonus straight away

Hi Shirl,
Many thanks for the reply! Didn't want to get there & think "oh bugger!". We are staying in Ormond for 3 mths til we get a pad & check out the lay of the land. Can't wait!!!! Looking forward to sun & fun - it's chucking it down outside at the mo ;-( Kindest regs & will keep u posted on how we get .. maybe hook up for a few? Karen
Hi Karen
CONGRATULATIONS on the visas, you must be very very happy right now!! When are you thinking of coming over?
You don't need any UK tax documents to register with an employment agency, they will require to see a current passport and visa. You will also need to apply for a tax file number and if you are going to be contracting you will probably need to register for an Australian Business Number.
Great to hear from so many people - this site rocks! We got our tkts at the weekend & arr in 4 weeks - yippeee! Am v excited & wee bit nervous but am sure the sight of the beach will sort that out ;-) Now gotta sell all my stuff ..argh! Do u guys have many antiques fairs/auctions going on? Have heaps of old collectable stuff - old maps, postcards, tube maps, prints & shipping line brochures from 1930's - might add to my kitty down under if worth taking? My fella thinks it's aload of old "tat" tee hee! Many thanks for your post hon & roll on Nov 17th ;-) Kindest regs, Karen.
Hi Haren ,, Bring it over Karen and sell it here, yes there are antique fairs and such, i wish i'd bought my "old stuff" with me. 1930's 50's stuff sells for a fortune over here it, as does "shabby chic" "art noveau/deco stuff" just take a look on Australian e-bay and you will get a good idea , hubby will be eating his words when you coin it in lol ... i can tell by your posts your really getting excited now .... best .... shirl
