Hello Damon

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

I can't tell you anything about roof tiling jobs in QLD specifically, but I hear that there is work for brickies in QLD at the moment. Seems to me that roof tilers and brickies would be found around the same watering holes?

The links below might be useful:

How to find jobs in Queensland, Australia

Skills in demand by region

The occupation is also on the list for their subclass 475 SRS visa, which means that although the State Migration figures suggest that the demand in and around Brisbane is being met adequately, they need to encourage roofers into the further flung parts of the State if they can.

Realistically, though, for the 2008/9 Migration Year, the number of PR visas for skilled migrants alone has risen from 102,000 to 139,000. Visa numbers in all other categories have risen as well. Migrants need somewhere to live and in addition to houses they need local infrastructure - shopping malls etc.

What proportion of migrants are in the building trades? Not enough to saturate the demand for their skills, I suspect.

Best wishes

Gill
