New, excited and very confused members!!!

Hi. Just wanted to say hello to all on PIO - we are hopefully going to join the many who are getting out of the UK to head for paradise!!!! As the title suggests,we have realised just how much this is going to entail and are struggling with where to start but this will just add to our sense ofachievement when (positive thoughts, positive thoughts haha) we get to Oz. Already had lovely words of encouragement from a couple of you guys on here and get from ur posts that clearly ur a friendly bunch, sooo..........nice to meet you all, look forward to chatting

Hannah

Hi Hannah and welcome to PIO, we're not a bad bunch and always try our best to help. We're spread all over the place so wherever you're heading someone I'm sure will be able to offer some advice or answer your questions. Check out the socialising section - there may be some 'meets' around your area in the UK

Ok, start writing the questions down as you think of them and just throw them out to us, as Ali says we have members everywhere so someone somewhere will know the answer. For all visa enquiries you have Alan Collet Managing Director of Go Matilda, George Lombard and our wonderful Gill. So please start asking away, we love questions

Thank you ali- ideally we want to head for melbourne, we can't get over on skilled visa as my partner moved from working as a mechanic with honda to working in their hq doing tech support and quality control - apparently, according to an agent, it would be difficult to prove what percentage of his job is mechanical so we would be better off going down sponsorship route or him going back on spanners for a year and then trying. He has found a job at tech support at honda Oz and has applied but i think its unlikely anything will come of it as it will be a lot easier for them to employ from their oz pool!!! closing date is tomorrow sowill just have towait and see -altho i am nagging my bloke to phone and speak to someone. thank you for ur welcoming words - found this forum by accident but think its proving to be a good one. ur all so friendly - thanks :0)

Hannah
Could your OH not ask to be transfered? Don't rely on just applying for jobs through agencies or email as you never hear anything back, I definately think it would be worth a call and explain that he already works for Honda in the UK. Good luck and I hope you hear something soon.

Hi Hannah,

Although an expensive option .. some people come over for a holiday and do some door knocking with CV in hand and can secure sponsorship that way.

Moving to melbourne - yeah my OH did speak to HR last year - their response was it had never been done and then she continued to look at him in that well?????.........nothing i can do, what else do you want - way???? Didn't say anything like she could look in to it for him - thing is altho they are samecompany they work as seperate entities so uk has no reason tohelp OH get over there - i keep nagging him to speak to Honda uk and he just says theres no point theres nothing they can do, i think he thinks this because they were so unhelpful before - i thinkhe should try again. He has agreed that he needs to ring Honda Oz so thats something

Ali - yeah that would be a plan but we have limited money which we have for this venture and we just can't afford to go out on a recce - good idea tho and would deffo do it if we could - so hard to stand out to employers when ur just words on an email :0(

Hiya Hannah ,welcome to poms in oz . There are lots of jobs out here for your hubby ,if you cant get a skilled visa and have to go sponsership i would ring everyone you can ,get up the yellow pages and the list of all garages and get ringing regardless if they are advertising for staff or not. Its hard to get a response from the Uk and most e-mails will go unanswered. Good luck with everything
Cal x
