Welcome to Poms in Oz.
I'm not sure what you are getting at?
If you qualify for General Skilled Migration then you don't need an employer to sponsor you. If you need or are offered employer-sponsorship and choose Employer Sponsored migration instead, you can't apply for the visa until the employer has gone through two stages of getting the whole plan approved by DIAC.
I would suggest that you have a go with the Visa Wizard and see whether you get any help from it. (It is brand new and I haven't really seen any feedback about it yet.)
