Hi TJ
welcome to PIO
there is loads of helpful people on here it's a great site, but i think you would be better starting with talking to an agency the will point you in the right direction

First i would talk to an agent this will cost nothing for your first consultation try alan collett he regularly posts on here and has a good reputation and see where you stand.

Hi there, welcome to PIO.
Depends what sort of visa you ultimately decide to go for - a sponsership visa would be quicker, but does have certain restrictions, not sure of the family sponser route - would def agree with the others and tell you to ring a couple of agents to go through all your options.
If your OH skill is in demand in Oz, I know most people would recommend going down the Permanent Visa route (takes longer, but more "secure"), but obviously its your personal choice.
Plenty of recommended agents on here - mine has been fab, so if you want her details, feel free to send me PM.
Good luck.

thanks all, the company he is talking to have offered to sort visas etc for him, a sponsored 457 visa,
i dunno if that will cover just him ort all of the family, also are we better getting in on a 457 and then applying for a full visa, or doign the full visa here and then he can change employer if he wants to once there?
nightmare scenario no 1, we get there on a 457 and then either he hates job or i hate location and we want to move round a bit but cant because he is sponsored only to work for that company.

Hi TJ,
I've just joined this forum myself and in a slightly similar position - we have already started the application process for Skilled Migrant Visa's but now have job offers and sponsorship. If your DH's skill is very much in demand then I wouldn't worry too much, you can change employers so long as the new employer will also sponsor you and even if you leave an employer (or they leave you) my understanding (from the Living and Working in Australia book) is that you have a month to find another sponsor.
Is is actually an employer who he is talking to or an agency? We talked to agencies and I didn't like that set-up as if they sponsor you they would expect you to work anywhere (literally they could move you from Perth to Sydney)
I agree with everyone else though have a consultation with an agency & find out if you are eligible for a Skilled Migrant Visa, we're taking the sponsorship but it's good to know our permanant visa's are in progress.

As far as I know yes, we still need to check out the details with our migration consultant but you get more points if you have worked in Oz for 12 months or more so I guess that means they like it!
If I find out more I'll let you know.

If that happens then I think he could get another sponsored 457 visa from a different company if he found an alternative job
