Hi I'm new-visa help

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to the move to Melbourne next year. I have a couple of friends and distant family there who love it.

I've been going on various sites trying to get info on best way to apply but there is so much conflicting information.

I'm 32 and did the skilled workers test and it appears I have enough points to apply for this type of visa but what do I do next. after doing the test it said an agent would contact me but that was 3 weeks ago and I have heard nothing.

do I need an agent for the aplication process and if so where do I get one? Also, does anyone know if I have to have a job offer in place when applying for skilled workers visa.

any help would be gratefully received...I don't know whether to go to OZ with a holiday visa for three months and see if I can find a job or apply for a SW visa now?

thanks x

Hiya Lambster & Welcome to PIO

You must have done a test on one of the migrant agents websites maybe. If you would like me to send you my agents number just let me know.

You dont have to have a job to go to if you are going on a 175 visa, you can just look when you get there. There are lots of different types of visas and not sure which one you are looking at. Is your skill on the modl list?

You can do the visa process on your own or you can use and agent, obviously the agent will cost you but for us it was well worth it. The TRA part for us was the hardest part. The TRA is the part you need to pass first before you can apply for your visa , if you are looking at the 175 visa.

Agents give you free advise to begin with and let you know if you are eligible, personally I would telephone a few and get some advise first.

Good luck i'm sure lots of people here on PIO will help you with some more answers.

p.s. sorry but do not know what an SW visa is?

Hello Lambster,

If you email us your CV we will be happy to advise you about your best visa options.

Like most agents we don't charge for this service, and at least you will know where you stand and what visa application you should be considering.

Cheers :)

Hello Lambster

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

I agree with SOMV. I think the easiest way to get started with your plans is to ask a few Agents. I would NOT use anyone who kept me waiting 3 weeks for a call back, however.

The DIAC website is good too if you have the time to work through it systematically.

Department of Immigration and Citizenship

The Booklets are particularly useful. Start with Booklet 6, I suggest, to see whether you are eligible for independent skilled migration. If not, then study Booklet 5 next:

Information Booklets - Applications & Forms - Visas & Immigration

Best wishes

Gill
