Unhappy Help plzzzzzzzzzz

Just a quickie to say hi to all PIO and to ask for any pointers on how to get started really! My hubby got a job here (left UK in May) and myself and the kids (13 and 7) joined him about 4 weeks ago. I have finally managed to get the kids into school I am finding things really difficult in terms of getting out and about any pointers anybody could give would be really appreciated as I am not ready for being a full-time housemaid (just yet). Thanks again

Hi Stephi & Welcome to PIO

Whereabouts in Aus are you? PIO have meets sometimes and if there is one in your area then go along and meet some people.

Maybe try getting involved with the school and helping out voluntary your sure to meet some people that way too.

Good luck and keep us updated

Hiya welcome to poms in oz, i found the school a great place to meet people, after hours discos, tuckshop etc always need helpers also meeting the parents of my childrens friends has made me some good honest mates ,also the local shops, someone with a new accent always seems to draw attention straight away, more than anything look happy and keep smiling. Can you not get a local part time job that fits around the kids? the local papers are good for ads,,
Hope your feeling happier soon

Stephi, There are PIO meets in Perth, unfortunately I do not know Perth that well so not sure if they are held near where you are. But everybody that goes always has a great time. Ali one of our Moderators here on PIO organises the PIO meets, why dont you drop her a PM asking when the next one might be. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Good luck you'll get there it just takes time x

Hi Emma

Ta muchly for getting back to me. I just simply feel lost if that makes sense, the kids are settling into their schools OK and the hubby loves his job but I am simply lost and isolated and do not know where to start. I am going along to listen to the kids read tomoz morning as a starting point and perhaps I can get involved with the school as a way of meeting people and of course all the simple things snowball and I don't want to give up, pack a suitcase and take the easy option but for the first time I am stumped!

Hi Stephi...
Why don't you get a little part time job?
Even if you only do it or a couple of months, you will meet people.
I have just taken a look on the Strling council website.
City of Stirling - index

If you look @ the jobs section they are advertising one for an admin person 20hrs per week ??? could you do that?
I understand that they are very understanding about children etc..

Like you say going to the school tomorrow will be a good start...
Maybe you could do some volenteer work ?

Do you not have anyone in Perth then?

Hi Emma

you are organised and Stirling Council offices are literally within walking distance from me. I actually saw that job on the internet but thought I would get all my bits unpacked before I tackled something else. My hubby works within the Department of Education and I am sure I will get something sorted out as I was looking at agency websites yesterday and there are loads of part time jobs and they do seem to have a very different culture when it comes to work and family here rather than in the UK in terms of flexibility. But of course, we are only working from laptops at the moment and my main PC is being checked over by customs as I type so there was a bit of a packing faux pas there!!!!!! Take it easy Steph
