Question Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast

Hi all,

I am new to this site so forgive me if this thread is in the wrong forum.

My Husband and I are migrating to Oz and we are having trouble deciding where to go. We have narrowed our decisions down and have decided to go to either the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast.

Can anyone give any advice on either of these places?

Thanks for your help.

Sarah & Dean Ashton

Hi Sarah and Dean,

First of all welcome to PIO, you will find out that you will get lots of replys due to the fact that everyone has a different outlook on what they expect. We are heading for the Gold Coast only cos for us there seems to be a lot of work their for the construction industry. Hope you find the answer you are looking for from others who will reply to this.

Hi Sarah and dean Welcome to poms in oz!!!
Both have + and - for the areas The only true way to decide is to come on a reci before making your mide up. I live on the sunshine coast and there is also lots of work out there in all jobs and its great but you do need to make your own mind up

Hi Dean and Sarah,
We've been a couple of times now and have made our mind up on the sunshine coast, but as others have said everyone has different views and needs.
People living there will have maybe a bit of bias but more realistic views.
We're on the verge of going now, subject to our brick built noose being sold and like alot of others we are going to change our way of life, which means of stepping outside of our comfort zone when it comes to where to live. So our ideal environment maybe not be what we thought, but hey theirs others.
Several people on PIO have moved within Oz and we have said we are more than prepared to do that so we will all get what we want from where we live.
Believe me we still discuss areas.
Have a great trip there and be prepared to be still not sure.
Sorry if this sounds a negative post as it's not meant to be, to us it still feels like a great adventure and we can't wait to get out there.

Keith

Hiya Ashton Family ,welcome to poms in oz,as the others have said its very hard to choose without seeing the places in person.I personally like both places but didnt want to live in either, sunny coast is nice and chilled ,gold coast great for adventure and action. Most familys book a hotel or furnished accommodation for a few weeks on their arrival to give them chance to check out suburbs and areas before signing up for a 6mth let.Good luck with everything ,hope this helps a little

Thanks for yoiru comments guys....

I am swaying towards the gold coast, although am loving the idea of being in such a laid back area with the sunshine coast.

Is there much work out there for carpenters as Dean wouldn't wanna do anything else.

Thanks again

Gold coast is much more glam with better (imo) shopping centres, more nightlife, more going on generally. GC has the tambourine mountian and SC has Glasshouse Mountains, both very beautiful. I found the SC a little to much like Bexhill on Sea with a lot of greys walking about eating fish and chips. Kids will love the theme parks of the GC. The only downside to the GC is that it gets a little rowdy late at night.

That's just my opinion
