      skills assessment Vetassess Mechanic

Hi we've finally made the decision, we're going for it! We've filled out the skills assessment forms and just have to get work experience references and certificates certified then we press that first button to commitment. So many questions to ask not sure where to start. One step at a time. Someone has advised me that along with work experience references you need to write a short biography is this true or is a reference including job title job description and responsibilities sufficient?
      Thankyou
      Tracey

Hi there Tracey and welcome to PIO, when i did mine, last year i wrote all my duties and responsibilities down (My skill is Hairdressing) so i put that for example that i cleaned all my tools and equipment with barbacide, swept and mopped the floor, shampooed and conditioned clients hair, carried out a consultation, etc I think the more you go into detail the better it is
      Good luck

      Thanks Tania
Are you in Australia and if so where did you go? We've been looking all over and my head is spinning. I've just looked at pacific pines but most properties in our price range seem to be on a complex. I don't mind renting on a complex but not sure about buying on one. (or is this quite the norm?):spinny:

Hi I wish i was in Australia, we submitted our 176 visa at the end of March 08, so still have a way to go. We are hoping to go to Victoria. I think alot of people do tend to rent properties before they buy, my friend who lives in Melbourne rented for 9 months before buying one, i think it is good to have a look around and make sure it is the area you want to live

my husband is a mechanic so if he passes the skills assessment and the practical (another $1500 which we didn't know about) we will apply for 175. I'm just scared if it takes too long i might get cold feet. Knowing how long it's taking people to sell their houses i'm tempted to stick mine on the market now and take the chance. If we don't get a visa we'll just have to rethink.

      Where about do you live???
We said if for some reason we aren't granted a visa then we will stay in rented accomodation for abit (depending if we sell our house) and then perhaps be in a position to buy something better.
I don't think the housing market is going to improve much in the next 12-18 months anyway

We live in Weston-super-Mare so we have the beach but not quite what we're looking for lol. Checked out reviews on caboolture and they don't look too good but coombabah and pacific pines seem to have good comments so maybe we'll think about therex

Caboolture isnt all bad ,and i wouldnt write places off your list until youve had time to check them out personally,we too thought we would love Deception Bay but when we looked it just wasnt for me.Everyones tastes are different so whats wrong for one is great for another, hundreds of folk live at Pacific Pines but to me it was just a huge housing estate,as i say everyones idea of 'good' is different. The best advice i can give is to drive, drive and drive some more when you get here and check out all the suburbs on your list. If your hubby is a mechanic he shouldnt struggle finding work where ever you decide to live ,good luck with everything

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place...
If you get a chance, take it, If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy they just said it would be worth it...

We live in Coombabah, and it's fine. Not to far from the water front (no proper beaches past Southport for a while, just man-made swimming areas, still good), good for schools and Runaway Bay's facilities (shopping centre, sportscentre) but a bit of a drive to the motorway every morning for Rich. (As your hubby may not be travelling as much as mine (up and down the coast) it may not be such an issue). For this reason, we're looking at Pacific Pines next. I know a few people who live there, one building a house, and all like it. Plenty of parks, schools and a small shopping area; plus a short drive to the large Helensvale Westfield centre. Only problem is, like you say, the housing is not as affordable as the Caboolture area. Guess you're paying a premium for being near the beach, theme parks etc.
PM me if you need any more info,
      Jo x

Thanks Cal. I guess i'm panicing because i want to get kids into school and not have to pull them back out again if we don't like where we are. I suppose it wont hurt to keep them out school for a few weeks til we get things sorted. It seems like so many ends to tie together short term lettings til we find a place to rent (in a place we might want to buy) schools jobs and all within fairly close distance of each other. Don't know why i'm worrying about it now as we haven't even submitted the skills assement yet lol
