If you are in a schools catchment area, that school has to give your child a place (I've been told, by someone who did that).

It's seems a bit daft worrying about all this things now but i'm just trying to get my head round things so it doesn't seem so daunting when it gets nearer the time. I dont want to just land and then panic.x

No we are still in South Glos but my 17 year old is in Brisbane already. We have an agent who is doing the TRA stuff but we have done refs etc, but we still have to get Matts ex employers to sign them etc. Hit a bit of a stumbling block because we didnt want to tell the Mother in Law yet as she will be very upset and she knows quite a few people who work at Matts old employers so the cat will well and truly be out of the bag! Its so difficult. Not sure where we will end up as we will have to go where Matts work is. Favourite at the moment is Brisbane area, North of Sydney and Geelong in Victoria. We will just have to wait and see.

I suppose it wont hurt to keep them out school for a few weeks til we get things sorted. It seems like so many ends to tie together short term lettings til we find a place to rent (in a place we might want to buy) schools jobs and all within fairly close distance of each other. Don't know why i'm worrying about it now as we haven't even submitted the skills assement yet lol

Hi Tracey,
Sorry for pushing in here - just wanted to say hi. I have just completed the skills assessment and its going in the post tomorrow morning - OMG!
We are going to Perth (all being well) as we have friends there.
Not sure if you know but Ozzy schools are behind UK schools - so taking time out shouldnt be too bad. Our daughter is due to start year 8 in September - we are hoping to get our visa and be moved by July 09. Officially she would be finished year 8 and start year 9 in September 09 but Ozzy school year is Feb - Dec therefore she will go back into year 8 until December. I think this is great as it will give her 5 months to get settled in before moving up another year.
I am on this site all the time doing as much research as possible and i have to say i have learnt so much here.
I hope things work out for you
take care
Sharon

Hi Sharon Thanks for your input. I had heard that it was a bit different but didn't really give it a thought again so thanks for reminding me. That makes it less of a panic.
Can i ask you how detailed your work experience is. Someone said it needs to be so detailed as if you were talking to a child, describing every job you do word for word stating tools used etc. My hubby is a mechanic so this would take forever. If it's true he'll need to get started but he doesn't want to go through all that detail if you only need references and basic work experience wrote down.
Good luck with your application hope tha wait isn't too long
Tracey

Hiya Tracey Gary had to do a tra as diesel mechanic so pretty similar to you .It does have to be really in depth listing all tools learnt to use ,all skills ,wage rises in relation to skills learnt etc etc ,think it was about 8 pages all in ,you also had to list any courses attended etc.For the job refernces we found it better to write them (they have to be detailed too) and get old bosses to copy and sign them on headed paper.hope this helps a bit

Hi Tracey,
My husband is an orthodontic dental technician, thankfully this is on the MODL. I am a little worried now as he has only listed the types of dental appliances he does and not the actual tools he uses!!!!!! Ahhhhhhh maybe I should delay putting it in the post today and ask if someone out there can advise - just when I thought we had done it - but I would rather be 100% sure as the £150 is non refundable.
I have another friend who works in Brisbine - he said to me that the red tape is a pain in the rear but it is all worth it - its a good job I am determined - I haven't even started to think about the actual visa form filling.........
Never mind I suppose we are all in the same boat here
I will let you know if I get a response Tracey
Take care
Sharon

Thanks a lot Cal. I think he had better get started. What a pain you'd think all the certificates he's gained would have been enough but i'd rather he did it right that have it sent back. Not only would this delay it but would also cost more . Thanks again i think your answer may have helped Sharon too (makeemsok)

Hi Sharon
Sorry if I've delayed your application but i suppose it's best to get it right first time. Someone i know had hers sent back from her agent 3 times and told to add more. He's a sheet metal worker. It may be different for you but it wouldn't hurt to double check. Good Luck
