WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Is there anyone who could help us. We're a family currently living in Kent, England and my Husband's Brother emigrated over a year ago to Adelaide.
We are now considering the process of going through a skilled visa, as my Husband is a Panel Beater/Vehicle Estimator. Although he hasn't worked as a Panel Beater for two years, but he would really love to go back to it.
We have two girls aged 9 and 5.
I don't know where to start. Where is the best place to emigrate to? What areas are desperately seeking motor vehicle panel beaters/estimators?
I've been looking on the website for jobs/houses etc., but you never get to find out what the salaries are so you can't work out what you can afford, house wise whilst you've moved!!
If anyone has been in this position, please contact me. We're off to a seminar in London in August, so hopefully we will be able to find out more.
I wonder if you would be able to email companies in areas that you are thinking of to see if they will sponsor you. (sure someone will put me right if I am wrong!!!)
When we came, we came to where I had been offered a job. We came blind, had never been here but did have family here which helped.
Ask away if you want to know anything specific bout Brissie!

HI there, Welcome!
My first port of call would be to find out if you'd get in . AS your hubby hasn't worked in his field for the last two years you may find it difficult to get a visa . I think under normal circumstances you have to have been working more than 20hrs a week in the position or something like that .I would do a bit of research on the department of immigration web site to find or get soem advice from an agent.
Their are many options but you have to qualify for one.

I think id do what siblin has suggested and contact an agent to point you in the right direction,it will save you trawling the dimia website for days on end, lol, most will give you a free telephone consultation and answer some of your questions, try Go Matilda or Visa Bureau or Cheryl Bird all seem to get good feedback on here.
Good luck with everything ,the visa process can be stressful but it worth it in the end, lol, honest!

My Husband has been in contact with a migration company here in the UK. Because he has the correct qualifications, they have said that it shouldn't be a problem with him going via the skilled visa route! Personally, I'm not sure. As I said, we're off to a seminar in August, so will see what that brings.
I have seen some job adverts, whereby they will help with the allocation costs, but would really like to know how much these jobs would earn him.
I don't want to emigrate, and be in the exact same position as we are here in the UK.
Also my eldest daughter, is 9 and not keen on going!! How has anyone overcome that situation.
