Hello to you all, the lucky ones, if you are already over there!
My OH Matt and I are in the process of making the move.
OH in discussions with HR department and our house is on the market, for less than we paid for it 18 months ago, of course (yeah yeah I hear you all say, all in the same sinky boat!)
Our minds are pretty stuck on Adelaide...any comments? pro's and con's (bring em on)
We've had 8 years here in UK and... enough, this summer would finally finish me off if it wasn't for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Really worried about my little dog in quaranteen (is that how you spell it??) for 30 days too and I won't be able to see him

Hiya Clare, Welcome to PIO. Ohhh Adelaide is lovely and you will love it. Very Very laid back, family atmosphere, lovely weather, beautiful beaches, swim with the dolphins, affordable housing feels like going back in time 'but just nicely so'

Great news about Adelaide, we have friends from there but currently on contract in Abu-dhabi (and hating it), thats where we were before for years, well, Dubai.
They are so jealous we will be there before they get back, funny ole world

Where were you from originally if you've only been in the U.K. for 8 years? Or do you mean you've been with your OH for 8 years?

brought up in Spain, then dubai, Hongkong 1997 (yak!), Spain again then London 2000, moved to where parents originally from Worcestershire 2001, met Matt (sussex boy) but he'd worked in Africa, so we have been around (not like that!!!) not worried about the move...just worried about the property market, its pants, great forum isn't it? I've noticed at the bottom of the page links to other sites, i am looking at the pomsinadelaide, also good. whats your plans then? what ya doin? and hows it going?

That all sounds very exciting!

I'm living and working in Oxford at the moment, but have got an unofficial job offer in Melbourne with my company. They've just got to check my references and sort out some paper work before I get the official offer and I hand in my notice here!

I'm hopeful of heading over in late September or early October. I'm going to go on a 457 visa at first, and then the company have promised to sort out my permanent visa once I'm in the job (they'll sponsor me).

It's all very exciting for me, but at the moment I'm just waiting to get the confirmation and some dates in mind before I start thinking about what I want to take over with me and saying bye to all my friends over the country. I'm only 25, so don't have a house to sell and have relatively few ties here (apart from friends and family), so feel it's the ideal time for me to make the move. If I don't like it I can always head back again, and I've been pretty much promised a job here if I want to come back.

Can't help with the Adelaide questions as we are off to NSW but wanted to welcome you to PIO. Am sure your lickle dog will be fine altough I know how you feel as I also worry about my dogs and cats coping with it. DO keep us posted on our progress am sure there will be someone along who has loads of info on Adelaide.

I haven't got a departure date so reluctant to make too many enquiries
