WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
After a good few months of hiding in the background and spending many hours reading PIO, thought id better say HI!
We (me wife n kids) are heading to Brisbane to get out of the rat race and start afresh downunder. We have never been to OZ so are really excited and dont feel worried about uprooting and moving.
We are coming over on a 457 visa (Nikki is a nurse) and applying for 175 at the same time. I work AS an IT consultant and will (reluctantly) get a job once in OZ!
We just want to get out there now, being in the UK is really starting to frustrate us due to the daily increase of bills etc! The kids (laura, Jessica & Joshua have said they would pack their bags and go now if they could!!
Well that'll do for now, dont want to bore you all with my first post!!

Hi
Welcome to the site. We are doing the move for pretty much the same reasons as you. We went to Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast last year and it is a great area.

Hi Dave
You will get some people on here who will always tell you how bad it is over there, but you need to follow your heart and try it for yourselves. There are also lots of people on here who are happy and enjoying their lives out there too. We were only there on a holiday, but it felt so right. If we couldn've, we would have just stayed and not come home.
The beaches are lovely, and there are loads of things to see and do for kids. The days out to the attractions aren't too expensive and everywhere is very clean.
My husband also works in IT. Have you looked on 'seek' for the job opportunities? There seems to be lots.
Yeah ive seen lots of positive post but theres also the odd "dont do it" posts. we have friends who live in Flagstone who have been there for 2 years and they love it. I say if they can do it so can I.
So cant wait just to get there an be more relaxed and spend more time with the kids. Ive got all the stuff we (i really me me) want to do when we 1st arrive!!!
Ive noticed thats there is loads of jobs for my skills out there so i dont think there will be a problem. Am hoping Nikki will let me have some time off before i have to get a job! (i can dream! lol). Im in IT support & VOIP areas, what does your Husband do?
Hi Dave, Niki and kids welcome to PIO, i'm sure you have found out already it is a great site. Hope all goes well for you with your visa application Best wishes Tania X

Hi
He has had his skills assessed by the ACS and has been classified as a Systems Designer, although he does Systems Architecture and has works as a consultant in the past. Do you have to get assessed by the ACS for your 175 visa - I assume you do, unless you have enough points on just your wifes skills?
Wow!! he's a lot cleverer than i am! i just tell people to turn it off n on again!! lol.
Yeah we have enough points for the 175 with Nikkis skills! (hurrahh for her!)
