we are the gibson family, myself neil and my wife mel and daughter georgia, we live in a little place called fig tree pocket, near the city of brisbane, we have lived here for just over two years and it is fantastic, we stumbled upon this website and think it is fantastic, we have been browsing it a while now, and have now decided to become a member, and hopefully be able to offer advice to people moving here as we know what a great big step it really is, but it is the best move you could ever make, having the great city to visit, the beach not too far away and the bush on your doorstep it has everthing you could ever need. there is so much to do here we live right by a koala sanctuary which we enjoy visiting, there are many amusment and water parks, like sea world, wet and wild, movie world, australia zoo, white water world, dream world and much much more. good luck to everyone.
Hi Neil, glad you have made a success of your move. Im sure everyone on here wants to be writing posts like this a couple of years after getting there!! Can I ask what you do for a living mate?? We are still undecided which state we want to move to but may end up being dependent on job offers? I am coming over with my wife and 2 kids as an AME so Brisbane has a good chance. I currently work on the railways though so am looking into that as well. Have you bought or are you still renting?

Welcome to PIO. It sounds like you are really enjoying life here!! We visit the Gold Coast quite a lot and love it up there but don't think I could cope with the heat if I was living their full time.

hi guys, i am a painter and decorator, mel is a hairdresser, we have brought a property as we were lucky enough to have bought and sold our home in the u.k.at the right time and made a good profit.
there is penty of work here in brisbane, when i left the u.k. my local paper would have a handfull of jobs in it every week, here in brisbane there is a seperate pull out paper full of jobs, just about every trade you could imagine, and the interviews are a breeze. it does get very hot during the summer but you just deal with it, you climatise pretty quickly, i just drink plenty of water and soak myself down, i much prefer to be too hot than too cold. i am sure you would have no probs with work here in brisbane.
thanks for the welcome, great to be a part of this fabulous forum. we went to sea world today which was great, there is a little water park in there too, but was closed due to it being winter, but was a fabulous day out seeing the dolphins and other sea creatures as well as a few white knuckle rides too and a little fairground for younger children. this is a great website for people moving to brisbane, hope the link works www.ourbrisbane.com mel is working at the moment but not for herself. thanks.
