WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
We're planning to move to Oz. My secretly biggest worry is the flying....
I've never been on a plane!!! What does jetlack feels like, do you wanna puke on the plane...?
I am lucky to have not suffered from jetlag on any journey that I've taken, however, I do make sure that I adjust to the local time as soon as possible i.e. stay up as long as possible until it's you're normal bed time in local time etc.
The journey on the plane is also harmless, my 4.5 year old boy loves flying and he has never had a problem and we've flown all over with him the longest being 8 hours to Barbados last year, I think the trick on the plane is to make sure that you keep hydrated and keep occupied.

We've not suffered too bad with jetlag, the worst thing is just trying to adapt to the new time zone you're in. As Cal said, if you land in the morning and keep awake you'll be straight faster; land at night and try and go to bed. It's small kids that have trouble, as they can't stay awake; our three kept going to bed at 4pm, and waking up about 3am when we got here. Over the course of a week, it just adjusted itself, and was fine. No sickness either.

Only time I ever had any trouble with jetlag was taking DS2 to UK at 12 weeks - he had it and it took a while for him to get with the daily routine in UK (then I brought him back at 5 months and it wasnt so bad) Suppose I cant blame him, he was only tiny after all. Personally I refuse to believe in it - I believe in sheer unadulterated knackered-ness but not jetlag! I find the least problem if I leave either end late at night and then arrive at destination first thing in the morning - I run myself ragged the day I leave so that by the time wheels are up I am asleep and generally dont wake up until the meal before arrival at refuelling stop. Then I walk briskly from one end of the airport transit to the other while refuelling and get a bit more sleep before arriving at 6am then I keep going all day until I drop - usually about 8pm and I am back in the rhythm.
As for being sick - if you are even in the slightest bit inclined to motion sickness then take something for it because if you do go through a bumpy bit you will feel like sh*t!!!! I never travel without my Avomine. The best (if you can find them) are Scop (scopolamine) patches which sit behind your ear and give you 48 hours vomit free travelling. Cant find any in Aus and it looks as if they could be off the market in UK too. Brilliant things!
It hit us quite hard but it was more that we couldn't get our body clocks adjusted, we were in bed till 2pm in the afternoon but then wide awake till 5am.
