Newly qualified nurse seeking Aussie life

Hi all,
I am nearly, newly qualified nurse with registraion expected September 2008. My partner, myself and our four kids have been dreaming of Oz for many years now and cannot wait much longer! We have narrowed our horizons to the Brisbane and surrounding areas.
I have been searching for Registered Nurse positions, but being newly quallified I am not having much luck without any post reg experience.
Can anyone offer any advice?
I am aware that Queensland Health offer a graduate (newly quallified) nurse programme which is available to overseas nurses but only after Australia graduates have been offered places. Its also not very clear about the visa situation. As I am 37 yrs old and will not be going anywhere without my partner and kids I need a visa to accomodate all of this.

Why not look into elderly care and see if someone will sponsor you! Thats the way I got here. I have been qualified a bit longer tho (15 years this year!)

I was sponsored by a London agency and they placed me in an elderly care retirement village. After 4 months the village bought out my agency contract and employed me!!! I know that is luck more than anything!

Look for agencys and go for brisbane companies. There is Tri-Care nursing homes, I work for Wesley Mission Brisbane. DO a google search and see what you find! Email them and see if they do employee sponsored migration. You dont ask......!!??!!??

Hi, im pretty sure ramsey healthcare sponsor newly qualified'sand they have hospitals all over australia.

Thanks Suzi, I've had a look and Ramsay do a programme called gradPlus. I've emailed them to see if they accept overseas newly qualified.

Also you might want to try Access nursing recruiters: (02) 9326 3988 or Welcome to Access Nursing

The other thing might be to contact the AHA (Australian Health Association) for advice.

Hi Sam,
have a look at the individual health websites of teh state you are interested in and see if tehy are doing any UK interviews. I know 2 student nurses who were just waiting for their final marks then registration who had interviews and have been offered sponsorship via this route. Queenslands website is particularly helpful and you can just submit an expression of interest and it might get picked up from there.
