WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi everybody. I'm an Australian citizen that has been brought up in the UK (since the age of 6 months). My hubby luckily for me shares my lifelong dream of relocating to Australia and we are planning to move in early September. I am luckily enough to have been able to provide my 2 children with Australian citizenship by descent and therefore Australian passports and my husband has been granted his permanent spouse visa. We are taking a bit of a chance as my hubby is in IT (Project Manager) and every agency we have spoken with is saying he will have no problems finding work, just let them know when we land and they will arrange interviews. Having tried for 1+ year to secure a role prior to leaving the UK we have decided to take the plunge and just come over. I am a midwife and am going to register with an agency so I will be able to work if needs be. With a 5 year old, a nearly 3 year old and a 2 year old German Shepherd we have fallen in love with the Point Cook area as we don't want to live in the city and my hubby is happy commuting (he does it anyway now but for up to 2 hours sometime).
I would love to hear from anybody who has any views about this area and also any suggestions or comments about the job side of things for my husband. It would also be lovely to hear from anybody in the South Western Melbourne area that can be a friendly person for support in the whole moving over aspect and also that may have the potential to become a friend (I don't want to be billy-no-mates!!!) Any reccomendation for schools, kindergardens etc would also be appreciated as would any infomation I have forgotton to ask for which I ned to consider.
I look forward to hearing from you and thanks for reading!

Cant really help with your questions but just wanted to welcome you to PIO.
My OH is also in IT (Infrastructure Architect). We are in early stages at the moment but have been looking at the job agencies online. There are plenty of jobs advertised in the Melbourne area so I would not see him having any problems whatsoevergetting work.
Please let me know how you get on.
Debbie

Hi Jody, we too are hoping to move to Point Cook area. My husband is a kiwi and our children have dual citizenship (3 year old and 5month old). We decided to take the plunge and shall be on our way within 12months. I am a teacher and hope to get work when we get there. We are currently in Wales but can't wait to live the dream down under. Good luck on your move and we may bump into you. let us know what schools you find for the little ones. Someone on here said you have to pay for schooling in Oz! Do you know this to be the case?
Nadine
I would be staggered if your husband couldnt find a good career position with that background. With almost full employment in the major cities and a desperate need for competent staff - it shouldnt be a problem
Hi sorry I cant help either but wanted to say hello and that I am interested in the replies as I have been looking at that area and Hoopers Crossing. The rents seem reasonable and it appears to have quite a few schools in the area, also my son is majorly into Tae Kwon Do and they appear to have a club there. It is all a bit academic at the moment because until we find out where DH can get a job its all a bit up in the air. Still I think its a good idea to get as much knowledge of the place as you can.
