Hi nice to meet you.
I too have been in Oz a while 19 years to be exact and havnt long ago found this website.
I understand what you mean about moving towns as I have moved from vic to brisbane and miss what i was familiar with in vic.
Its like emmigrating all over again but your in the same country! I suppose its because Oz is soooo big!

Hi I am also new to the site and coming over to OZ in Febuary. My husband wants to get out of the UK and start a better life and with his job we can come to OZ but I want to visit first. I am totally lost with it all, first we looked at visiting Sydney, then Perth now Brisbane. I want the best place to have a nice family home, somewhere where the motor trade is plentiful. Somewhere where it does not go dark at 5.30pm! near to some good shops when you feel like it. I have 2 children so nice schools and a safe place. Any advice?? Thanks

Dont go to Qld then it gets dark in winter at 5.30 and about 7 in summer.
You would be better off in nsw or vic as they have daylight saving and in summer doesnt get dark till about 8.30 to 9.00.
Plus they get 4 seasons but you dont mind the winters as you know your going to get long hot summers guaranteed!

The problem we have is we need to visit on a holiday but having 2 young children we are limited on time away from school. We have priced visiting Brisbane but I have been advised on here that is goes dark early and that would be the last thing I would want. I want my hubby to come home and have some family time in the garden for a few hours. So I think Brisbane is out and I may have to look more into Sydney & Perth. I am so glad I found this website though for all the help. People have been great on here so far.

Thanks Taffy. I am so pleased you told me about it going dark. With the costs to visit OZ I need to come to somewhere that will tick all the boxes as my decision will be based on what I see. Oz is huge and it would take months to learn all I need to know so this website it fab.

I will look at Victoria. I know a family in Perth & a couple in Sydney but thought Brisbane looked great but I do not want to get home from work and not be able to enjoy family time in the outdoors with it being dark! We have enough of that here.

I am ok with cooler weather so I would not mind the winter over there as it would be hot to me!!

How many months does it go darker early over there?

Thanks again for your advice.
