WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hello all,
im new to poms in oz!
went out to brisbane for four months last year but my partner found it difficult to get a job even though he had trade background, we didnt even get replies to job applications. Decided to come back to england back to his old job, problem is we cant settle! even though it was hard in brisbane we want to go back and give it another go.
We havent got much money but its now or never and nervous due to feeling like failures last year. Hope to meet friends through the forum, we have two grown up daughters who will follow after their education finishes, wish us luck on returning to brisy! hope we are doing the right thing

175 ONLINE JAN 08........VISA ARRIVED...02/12/08...
Hi,we are trying to decide as well whether its worth returning.I;ve spent most of my life in S.A and came to live in the UK 10 years ago.I'm pretty worried about jobs too!We have in the past emailed prospective employers and had no response from any of them!Does'nt exactly give you the vote of confidence right? We have a good life here, secure jobs, kids have grown up (and planning to stay in the UK)I'm caught in the middle and I don't like it!!!My husband has just submitted his spousal visa but we keep changing our minds whether to go through with it or not.I guess if our lives were hellish here it would be alot easier but its the opposite. All my family (apart from the kids)live in Oz and I feel compelled to go back for that reason alone, not because I think Oz is any better than here!Good luck with whatever you decide to do and hope it all works out for you.Best Wishes xx

Hi guys we are a couple in late 50s giving up everything to move to Aus to be with our daughter and her family nice house good jobs but we both want to spend our retirement over there hopefully we will find some sort of work but we feel its what we want to do and if we don't try it we will spend the rest of our lives wondering what it would have been like not just popping over for a holiday every couple of years, people have told us " life is too short " and Uk isn't going anywhere if you give it another go and its the same no shame in coming back but at least you will have tried and done something a lot of people don't have the guts to do, at one point we said we weren't going due to all the changes inflation ,house prices etc and i cried for a whole day so I know its the right thing for us so maybe the pull for you to go is stronger than the pull to stay.
good luck in making your decision

Thanks for the email, life is too short and guess the pull to go back will never go away we may regret it for the rest of our lives. Just hope we meet some freinds out there, i was so lonely before. (Alex is scottish too) take care Annemarie
Hello there thanks for your email, my partner is a maintanence fitter on high speed production lines, currently workshop engineer. He qualified to obtain an australian trade recognised certificate and on this ground we obtained permanent residency status. We applied for so many jobs and didnt get any replies, we spent all our money on living expenses and rent therefore when the old job offer came up in england we jumped at the chance to come back. Problem is we want to try again, but afraid that work wont come our way. Cheers
