Is the grass always greener?

I have been reading this forum for a while now but haven't joined until today. People are very honest even if sometimes this honesty is negative. I am an Aussie girl living in the U.K for 16 years. I am returning to Oz with my family later this year. I feel very English and unsure of things due to living here for most of my adult life! Life is so short and we don't want to be old and think 'What if'. I miss Oz like mad but I know that when I land back in the sunburnt country I will miss old blighty. Everyone remember you can always go back! May cost you lots of money but isn't that better than forever wondering what your life would have been like, if you took the plunge and moved to another country? There are good points about both countries just a pity we cant have the whole world!

Hi.

I agree that this is a great place to get some honest views on life in Aus and the UK. It proves that what works for one might not work for the next. But yeah, you're right, you have to do it for yourself to find out if it's right for you.

How lucky we are to be able to choose!

Good luck.
Kate

we will always miss and yearn for what we haven't got and human nature is such that we all view what we used to have with rose tinted glasses when times are tough. Whether this is a true perspective is very individualised. It takes a special kind of person to be content, unfortunately most us aren't. Is that human nature of societal pressure?

Sadly, I think there is a fair degree of societal pressure going on at the moment, particularly media influence trying to sell a product (and obviously being quite successful at it) without a cost free guarantee. Of course it is possible for many to cut their losses and go back, but there are always going to be those for whom it is not a possibility and unfortunately it can be very simplistic to say that if it doesnt work you can undo the damage. The older you get and the more you have an obligation to your dependents for stability and security the harder it is.

OP I hope you enjoy your time back here - if this is where your family are then it will be easier for you to feel at home.
