WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Thanks Geoffrey, that has been honest and insightful. I've been on the Brits returning home section (thought we might get to hear some negative there - and we did). We have an urge to come to AU, hope we'll love it but keeping a back up plan back here for a while. What you described is what we want. We have a comfortable life here in the UK but were are not materialistic and use our income to support good times rather than nice things. What we both struggle with her is the snobery. The UK is beautiful but the government and society has gone tits up ('cuse the expression). It is frowned upon to not be materialistic and i really don't want my children growing up in a society that disrespects people because they don't possess the right things. If you do not have the newest car or latest flat screen TV or wearing designer clothes you must be a pauper and therefore a layabout with no brains. Society here is so judgemental and we would like to leave this behind. Please, please tell me that AU society is less judgemental. Also, whats the real view of these damn poms invading the country?

And you think you waffled!
Hi once again
I put my hands up everything in my house was the best the latest the greatest when we moved home we bought everything new but that was then (different person now) but i had friends like me and friends who liked the simple life, i never looked down on them or them on me, you take someone as you find them.
A new start is a great way to fix all your mistakes.

Can't do better than Tasmania. Housing is cheaper, plenty of jobs in the paper, very little crime, plenty of room. Tasmania is about the same area as Devon, but only has a population of under 500,000. Good lifestyle, plenty of beaches, night life, (if that's your thing) Google Tasmania and have a butchers.!!!

I can back Geoffrey on this.......people over here like the new gadgets, but nobody looks down on you if you don't have them, non of the class system I found when I lived over in the UK, you could bump into a millionaire who was wearing shorts and t-shirt you wouldn't know he had money. Very down to Earth I have found.
500,000 in the space of Devon!!! How do you form a queue?! I must admit the more i here the more i'm liking Taz, only thing is, is it too remote. Does it have the same facilities and opportunities for the little ones as the mainland? We currently live in a small country town which we love but we are still only a short trip away from main facilities. Can Taz offer something similar or is it more remote, cos it is definately beutiful
Cheers for all your comments

G'day Jean RY. Don't think I've ever been in a quue down here, exept maybe two or three waiting to use an ATM.!!! lol We have everythig down here, but even the cities have that small town feeling. If you do have the craving for the rat race, only an hour to Melbourne by plane, cheap fares too. More industry starting up all the time, big new hospital soon to be built in Hobart. Anyway Google Tasmania, it will tell you a lot more. If you need anything more specific, e-mail me and I'll do my best to find out for you.
