WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
I have reviewing the possibility of relocating to Melbourne to take up a new job. I have a few questions on living in Melbourne. I have 2 young boys, 9 months and 21months and am wondering where is the best area to live in melbourne for people with young families. I am happy to rent for the first year, will i be able to live in a nice area with 3 to 4 beds for around $2000 to $3000 rent per month. I will be working in Rosslyn St West Melbourne and my wife will take up a part time position as an oncology nurse.
So do you any of you have any recommendations, as where we live will be a big factor on us moving from Ireland.
We are moving with our 2 year old son to Berwick but also looking at Narre Warren South and Beaconsfield. Berwick village is gorgeous and reminds of a small English village. They have a web site too so you can take a look at that. We too will be renting when we get over there until we can get more dollars for the pound..
Hi Simon?
Just had a quick tour around the net, if you dont know already west Melbourne is an Industrial area but not all is lost.
I have a few web sites for you to look at that may help you out. Real Estate Australia on RealEstateView.com.au - Australian property listings this page should help with rentals it has loads of suburbs for you to choose from. Just out of interest i picked out Hoppers Crossing & suburbs within 6kms, 4 bed Houses at no more that 300p/w it came back with 16 to choose from. or 32, 3 bedroom houses starting at $215.
If you are interested Hoppers Crossing is a newish area about 30 to 40 minutes away from your work, it has alot of young familys and is close to good family beaches. You can live in alot nicer areas but the $$$$$$$$$ are far higher.
If you look at www.melbourne.vic.au this has loads of info on whats coming up, parks places to see etc and is well worth a look
Hope this has helped if you want anymore info just let me know and i will do my best to help you out
With regards to Hoppers Crossing I originally looked at that area as my OH is a brickie and there is apparently good work there on residential properties, however I was put off as I didn't think it was close to any beaches ! Can you enlighten me as to where they are Geoffrey.
Before you think I'm dumb I've only just got my OH to agree to a possible move to Oz so have only been researching for a couple of weeks.
