Where do we start?

Hi all,

This is our first entry on this forum so please be kind to us! We are a family of 3 - Jon 40, Caroline 34 and our little girl Amy who turned 2 in the new year.

We visited Australia 6 years ago and fell in love with the place. We returned again in March and since coming back we are now fully determined to return on a permanent basis in the not too distant future.

I have an Australian passport as I was born in Sydney.

While we were in Sydney we took the opportunity to view houses around the Berowra area north of Sydney. Caroline's uncle lives there so it seemed an ideal place to make as our first base. We also checked out the employment position although neither of us work in any of the key industries - I work in insurance and Caroline works as an accounts technician. We also took the opportunity of checking out such things as a nursery for Amy.

Since coming back we've got together quite a bit of information and now need to take things forward. Where do we start? Do we sort a visa out for Caroline and Amy first and go from there?

What about employment? We were advised that it would be really difficult to get any job offers while we were still in the UK. Is this correct? Does anyone know of any agencies specialising in finding jobs for people while they are in the UK if it is not in a key industry? Would the assistance of a Migration Agent help us here in any way?

If anyone can help with giving us any advice it would be much appreciated.

Cheers for now.

Jon & Caroline

Hi Jon & caroline,
welcome to the forum,
have you had alook at the immi website, Department of Immigration and Citizenship
im not sure but you could be classed at a returning resident visa or then again it could be that your wife would go on a spouse visa, perhaps its a good idea to contact a migration co online & have a free assesment done, either way your an aussie so no worries
good luck

Hi

We were in a simliar position to you and here is what we have done.

For our children we applied for Citizenship by descent, as a child of an Australian Citizen, your daughter should be eligible to apply for this. See form 118 here
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/118.pdf

Your partner can apply for a Spouse Visa, this is what i'm in the middle of applying for.

On here people have secured jobs whilst still in the UK, your best bet is to look on employment websites such as seek.com.au, or contact some recruitment agencies.

There are expos in October in London and Leeds where there will be employers present.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Laura

HI Jon and Caroline,

Wanted to welcome you to PIO. See you have already had some good advice from what I understand about the visa process and believe me thats not much it should be fairly straight forward. You could also start by approaching one of the agent for a free first consultation !

WIshing you all the best,
Nikci

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and good wishes. We thought this would be a good site to take things forward and so its proven.

Just one quick question for now - Laura suggested we visist an expo to consider the job situation further as Australian employees are going to be there. Can anyone tell me where these will be held and when? Also has anyone been to one before - what can we expect?

Any further thoughts would be welcome.

All the best

Jon & Caroline
