WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi All
I'm new to the site. My OH and I have decided to move to WA later this year. OH has offer of work on crayfish boat for 7 months and we hope this will give us a bit of a boost financially. Does anyone out there have any experience of doing this sort of work in Oz? We would love to hear about it. Also anyone know anything about living and working in Geraldton?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Lulu
Hi Lulu, sorry i can't answer your question but i just wanted to welcome you to PIO i'm sure you will find it a dead useful site Good luck with your move Best wishes Tania X

My nephew moved over here last year & worked on a cray fish boat for a while the boat he was on spent time off Fremantle, then moved off Mandurah & Bunbury. He enjoyed the work although they left very early in a morning 3am I think & worked 10-12 hour days, money is dependant on catch I believe but not sure if thats how it always works.
Geraldton is about 5 hours drive North of Perth but is a fairly fast growing area & I believe the city has all the amenities you will need.
Good luck with the move, it will certainly be an adventure for you
Thanks for the information Eve. Can I just ask if your nephew was happy or disappointed with what he earned? My OH has been told that he can potenitally earn a lot of money. We know it is depending on the catch but there is usually a base rate of pay. We are keen to hear of others experiences because we are initially basing our move to WA on this.
Nephew didnt do the fishing for long... nothing to do with the pay rate but he found other things to do hes only 19 so wanted to travel a bit and so on.
I think from what he was told by people (on the marina but not cray fishermen) the money is really good for the duration of the season. He said it was hard work but he enjoyed it & better than fishing in the UK because of the weather.
