WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi, we are in the early stages of the immigration process and have some questions which we would be extremelly gratefull for answers / advice
We have decided to go through an agency for the whole process, is this the right way to do things?
My husband is a Quantity Surveyor so we hope that with his degree and experience we should be good to go, however we cannot decide between Perth or the East Coast
Which coast has the better weather, i have a skin condition and the sun really helps
Any other advice you can give would be extremelly appreciated
HI AND WELCOME TO PIO, CANT HELP YOU WITH ANYTHING THOUGH.
GOOD LUCK WITH THE PROCESS

Hi Bensmum,
we used an agent as i was studying at the time but in hindsight i think i could have it done myself and saved the money for Oz.This site is so good and you can find lots of onfo here. Everybody is sooo helpful.
As for your other Perth is wonderful. Spent 9 wks there from Nov to Jan and loved it. OH went to Sydney for a wkend and he didnt like it at all.
Hpoe this helps Shell

Good luck with the application. You should sail through if your hubby can provide paperwork and qualifications for his job. And when you get there I imagine he'll find work easily.
Both Perth and East Coast have good sunny weather. The more North you go on the East the warmer and more tropical the weather becomes. I know more about the Gold Coast area as that is where I am intending to go. There's about 2 to 3 months there which can be unbearably hot and humid but for the rest of the year it's perfect. Chilly in the mornings and evenings but by about 9am beautiful. It can rain a lot but that's only beneficial to keeping the beautiful countryside so lush and green. Plus after the rain the clouds disappear and everything dries up quickly!
Up to you about the agent. If you can afford using one then why not!
Hi Bensmum,
Welcome to PIO you have come to the right place people are very friendly and helpful,
We too are in the early stages,we are using a Agent....Thinking Australia they have been brilliant so far.
Maybe to start you could fill out a free migration assessment to see if and what visa you qualify for.
I cant recommend which part of oz as have not been there yet!!!
but for us we have chose the gold coast Clint my better half being a carpenter there seems to be more work there more timber framed buildings in GC....well thats enough about us.....lol
Good luck in what you decide, hope this helps.
Lou.
I haven't used an agent, because I know what type of visas I'm eligible for, and believe that I am intelligent enough to fill in the forms required, etc. Having said that, my circumstances are very straightforward - I am the only applicant for my 175 visa. I guess it's up to you whether or not you prefer to use an agent, the downside of not doing so, in my view, is that it can be a bit lonely! I've no-one to answer my questions, but the DIAC website is helpful, as is this one.
The climate is pretty favourable throughout Australia - although of course it gets pretty hot inland, and in NT it all goes troppo in the wet season!! You might be best to search internet for climate stats, that way you can see quantified data re temperature, average hours of sunshine, rainfall, etc. Wherever you are on mainland Aus (TAS is slightly different cos of its position), when it rains - it rains!
thank you so much, this website is superb, everyone is so friendly. My oh has said that we should qualify for a 175 visa as he has the relevant tertiary qualification and experience, he also said something about being employed for 12 out of 24 months counts as well. we have been in touch with ***************.com they sem ok, we have paid to have a detailed report done and then they will quote us a fee for the application. Does anyone have any ideas what we should be paying for an agency to do this for us, i appreciate that fees vary but we do not want to be ripped off.
how complicated is it to do ourself? my oh is very good with forms etc, but we want to make sure it is done properly as our son is nearly 18 and we need the application in before his birthday. Thanks again for your comments any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again Debbie
You will get the answers you looking for on this site but your 1st two questions are two that are often asked and always get equaly split answers.
Agents, it's a fair split between people who have one and them that don't so I think you will get advised to go either way, we are going agent route, completly crap at form filling ect' so best bet for us.
East or West? don't know sorry, we are going to Perth, seems to suit us.
Good luck with it all.
One piece of advice I would give, relax, it's a very long process!
