WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
Hi All,
This is my first time on here, My OH and I are going to join his sister and family in Tas they are not quite there yet but cross finger everyone they will be there as soon as they sell there house.
We did not want to go at first due to me have so much family being left behind.
All has now changed .....due to the STUPID...STUPID increase of tax on every thing and that fact of mortgage rates are now through the roof my mind is made up.............. WE ARE OFF!
How do you get over the feeling of sheer desperation of just wanting to just go?
My OH is a builder but his first trade was a painter and decorater, he is going to take the Ozzie test's and then we will see from there what options we have. I do work but only in admin in the building trade.
We will also have to sell our house before we go.
We want to be TASSIE-TASIC TOO!
Any helpfull hints are more than welcome !
Hi, just wanted to say welcome to PIO, everyone is very friendly and helpful, good luck with the process...sorry i can't be of much help as not far along myself.
Lou.

just reitterating on what geoff has said if those are your specific reasons you mightr be in for a big shock. Food prices are governed by price of oil, you have to get used to kerching land, and the red tape, its a good lifestyle but the taxes and pay outs are on a equal to uk if not worse

Hi Guy's,
No It's just one of my rants at the moment, as half of the family will be out there in Tasmania already (cross finger) we are going for the family life and get away from this green but not so plesant land.We seem to be stuck in a bit of a rut and we want to enjoy life a bit more, yes; so the bills will be about the same but hay you never know if you dont go!

Hi Guy's,
I'm quite a twitcher (in the bird sence) so I'm looking froward to the parks and the traills, I would love to go sailling as this was a love of mine once, but the OH is scared to death of being sea sick, (he is such a wooss as any man is when they are ill).
We are hoping to go to the hobart side of Tas as recomended by the sis in law.
What do you think of the place in general?
S x
if you like the out door life with the walks nation parks its great. not that much happens in tassie, im not 100% sure but up to 4 yrs ago it was still illiegal to be gay!!! Hobart is the same as any city you need to head west to see the real tassie.
