moving to oz

hi we are getting married in march 2009, my fiance was born in oz and his dad still lives there, i keep hearing of people just getting flights and going without doing the visa and legal stuff. they seem to be getting away with it too. can someone confirm one way or other.

thanks jacqui

Hi, Welcome to PIO

You would need to apply for a 'spouse visa' and have medicals done too. I think you will find that generally spouse visas do come back quickly, you can apply to Australia House in London I believe

Good luck

Hi , You might be able to although I have not heard of it. Don't forget if you have not got a visa you will only be allowed into Australia for a certain amount of time, not sure but think it could be 6 months, but I could be wrong there.
Why dont you give Australia house in London a call and see if they know the answer.

Someone on here may be able to help you though

Good luck with the move and the visa

Hi Jacqueline,
If your hubby has pr of citizenship of oz then why not apply here in oz (as once the applications in you cannot leave oz without asking immi) I applied in oz,had my medicals in oz and an interview with a migration officer, just needed one extra paperwork bit from my ex and all in all took 15days to be granted
Its too easy..........
good luck
stuju

Hi Jacqui,

I suppose it depends on how quickly you want to be in Australia, if you want to go within the next couple of weeks then yes Julie is right do it once you are in oz but if you are not planning on going for at least 3 months then you may as well start the process in the Uk, it really is probably one of the quickest visas to apply for.

Good luck

Wendy

hi thanks for that, its we dont get married till march next year, and i keep hearing of people just going to oz on holiday and not doing the visa process first, geoff was born oz so he isnt a problem. just seems so unfair going through the mine field of papers when others just go and then cross the visa issue.

ahh sorry I thought you were already married...even so the paperwork is not as bad as it seems, just grit your teeth and go for it.
