confused painter and decorator!!

Hi all, I've been browsing this forum (and others) for a few days now and I just seem to get more confused.
I'm a painter and decorator, I'm 43 nearly 44 (need to move fast I know), 15 years experience, mostly work for myself through word of mouth and have NO formal qualifications.
I'm just about to make contact with someone from Go Matida, as I've read good things about them, but they've asked me to email a cv!!! never had to do one before.
Can anyone on here, painter and decorators preferably, let me know anymore on what I may need.
Got to escape from this country before it sinks.
Thanks, Andy

hello mate,im in the same boat as you and have just contacted trade train to gain a aussie type city and guilds qualification called an AQF .It costs 3750 and they come and see you on site to sort it out .If you are self employed and have an accountant that helps for work history and you have to get a few clients to give references also you have to get some photos together .They are here for people like us with no fomal qualifications !!!!!! so i think they would be your best bet.Good luck

Hi I am a painter and decorator who did not complete my apprenticeship papers . I was rejected by the TRA and decided to complete a NVQ to gain formal qualification. I was rejected again by the TRA last week as I did not complete this course as part of my apprenticeship 25 years ago. I am gutted I am self employed and have years of experience not sure what else I can do - the dream may be over. Please be sure any qualification you do is acceptable to TRA before you spend a lot of money like I did (£2000).
I have heard that The TRA is working on something for unqualied, experienced workers which may be introduced in july . I assume it will be some sort of skills assessment like the carpenters and bricklayers can do.

I'd be up for sponsorship, please tell me more
Also been looking at info on aussie qualification, bit expensive, but if it gets me out of here it'll be worth it

Hello Andy

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

When I read your post I was going to reply saying, "Contact Jackal - here's how." Jackal, lbless him, has already replied to you I see.

Your best bet - by miles - is to copy Jackal, I reckon, especially since your age is not on yur side if you want to consider an application for independent skilled migration.

Two companies are offering to do these workplace assessments in the UK. The other company is cheaper than ACTS/Trade Train but I am not clear about what each of them provides in addition to the AQF III certificate.

Please see the thread below for more information and no doubt Jackal can provide a load more info if you send him a private message or e-mail.

Jules 37's Hubby is also a P&D and he is further advanced in the process than Jackal. Please see the posts on this thread:

Speak with Go Matilda as planned as well because they are in touch with both of the workplace assessment companies and can explain the difference in the leval of fees etc.

Even if you decide on the employer-sponsorship route, it is still worth your while to obtain a possitive skills assessment from TRA. With it, you could upgrade to a PR visa very quickly. Withut it you would almost certainly have to spend 2 years on a subclass 457 vsia before you could upgrade to PR.

Best wishes

Gill
