WelcomeIf you are new to Poms In Oz and migrating to Australia or currently living in Australia feel free to say hi to all the other either in or moving to Oz.
I am a midwife and registration with the nursing and midwifery board is an absolute nightmare, why is nothing ever so simple. I had to have my skills assessed as requested and you would think that Australia as a country would communicate but no, that is not the case at all. I can't believe your visa came through in 8 days - how did you do that? It has been 15 weeks now since I lodged my application and it is the midwifery board that is holding me up I am so fed up I am so close to saying forget it!!! Is it your partners job you are going out on? if so what does he do?
Hi all,
We are new to this site and also hoping to move to sydney area although not sure which part. I am a nurse and we applied online for our family permanent visa in april does anyone know the current processing times? We would be really grateful for any information about good places to live near sydney. We have heard that central coast gosford area is nice any ideas? It would be nice to talk to others in our position as our friends are bored of hearing us talk about oz!! C xx
Which visa have you applied for? Sydney is beautiful all over, we will be starting in Hammondville, approx 45 mins away from Sydney centre but my job is in Sydney itself so we may move close to the centre. Tracy x
Hi Tracy
We have applied for 175 permanent visa for myself, hubby and 2 kids. We were hoping to be in oz in time for xmas but the visas seem to be taking ages to be processed when looking at other peoples time lines. We have friends in castle hill in sydney but we are worried that we won't be able to afford to live in some of sydneys suburbs so we thought we might look furthur out ie. Gosford as we still want to be near to the coast and in a nice area for schools etc. C xx
That was the visa I should have applied for but went for the 176, that got abandoned and now I am going out on a 457. A friend of mine is going out on a 175 and it appears to be going swiftly for her, so good luck with it all - T
Hi i'm heading to Sydney with my fiance (he'll be my husnad in July!) he's baker and i'm a youth worker (30 & 29) sold our flat, getting wed and both can't wait to chuck our jobs in Glasgow! no idea where we're gonna live, but hope not to be too far from city and bondi!! looking to make some pals, so we can participae in some social activities, like shopping, diving and the odd bottle of winr..or three!! flight not booked yet, waiting for the flat money to come thru and then we're booking!
Hi, We're also hoping to come out to Sydney in August, depending on when we sell our house. We're coming out on a PR visa and hoping to settle somewhere in the Hills District (but won't know exactly where till we get there!)
We'd also love to meet new friends to help us settle in our new home country.

I am going to start work in North Ryde in 2 weeks 18/07 on my own, if anyone has any tips please let me know. I will be looking to rent near Hornsby/ Asquith. Does anyone know whether it is nicer there or Pennant Hills?
I've just joined PomsinOz Forum as we too are heading off, hopefully, before Christmas and Sydney is looking like the favourite spot to settle. I have a Partner (Migrant) visa (OH is an Aussie) and we have two children - girl age 11 and boy age 9. It certainly is reassuring to touch base with others who have made the move and would be pleased to hear how things are going with you guys?
How did you get on with schools? And any other useful advice? I lurch from being dead scared at making the big shift, to being totally elated at this wonderful opportunity! Am sure I'm not the only one to feel like this.
Also, my name is Sheila! Am considering using my middle name (Jo) when I get there though I'm told by my Aussie in-laws that the old "Sheila" tag has waned now? (Admittedly, I've been on several visits without it being an obvious problem)
Will look forward to hearing from you and hope you and your family have found a nice home and area to settle.
Sheila

We're going on the 138, OH's brother lives in QLD and has sponserd us.
We are hoping to sign on a furnished rental this week in St Ives, around Chatswood/Hornsby.
We fly out on the 27th June, me, OH and the four 'billy-lids', 11, 9, 5 and 2. Not looking forward to the airport, 120kg of luggage and four children, might have a few glasses of wine first!
Would love to meet up when you are there, keep in touch here.
