....and it's a big HELLO from me....

Yet another newbie....

I was and (and actually still currently) a member of the Poms in Perth forum, but as circumstances have now changed, I thought i'd join the Poms in Oz as well.

I suppose to introduce myself, here's a brief version of my story so far....

I'm married with two young daughters (2 & 3) and have been very interested in finding a better life for my us since the eldest arrived. My wife has family in Perth so decided to sort out a Rekkie there in Feb/Mar 2007, we had a lovely month in Perth, but unfortunately didn't find the family as accomodating as Perth. It put the missus off completely and it looked like that was it. I still fancied giving it a go though and it caused numerous debates (barnies). Since then 2 of our old neighbours have emigrated and other people we know have also taken the plunge of leaving blighty and I always suspected the OH might have a fancy for it. Anyway we are now back in the planning stage, but looking at somewhere other than Perth.

I absolutely loved Perth, but while the family problems were the main reason behind our initial decision, my wife also had other reservations. Whilst we were there the temperature was 42 degrees and she found this too much to cope with and would prefer somewhere more temperate, we also found our housing budget wouldn't go as far as we would have hoped. We've now started looking elsewhere, with Adelaide topping the list at the minute.

Sorry for going on, but I thought i'd introduce myself fully.

I will no doubt be asking many questions in the coming weeks as we try to draw up, some kind of idea of what new life we'll be aiming for.

Sorry for the waffling ,

Busby

Hiya Busby.

If its high temps that are a problem you might be limited to where you can settle.

Here in Adelaide we do get the heat in summer with the odd few days over 40c as well.We do get the seasons here though.the heat is not that prolonged normally though. You tend to work around it.

It's lovely here at the moment with sunny days up to 25c and then cool, clear nights.
We have a wood burning stove making the house nice and toasty.

You might well look at Melbourne or even Tassie - depends on your work though as well.

Thanks for the welcome,

Tyke, I am currently employed as a Computer Software Engineer with BT and have been doing that for nearly 5 years. I've been with BT for approaching 18 years now and done all aspects of Telecoms work in that time. Do you know what the telecoms prospects are in SA ? or anywhere else for that matter ??

Read quite a bit about Adelaide in the last few days and it does sound lovely. My father-in-law was in the Navy when he was younger and visited Adelaide and says it was the one place (other than Auckland) which he remembers most fondly.

We'd love to do a rekkie before coming to a decision, but at the moment money won't allow, but depending on our options visa wise, we might try to sort something out. What would you say the best and worst things about living in Adelaide are ?

I apologise again for all the questions.

Cheers,

Busby

Hi Busby and welcome to PIO. What a shame your wife was put off Perth. I fell in love with it but it wouldnt be for us all to like the same. Goodluck with your application and where you decide to go.
