Hi Bev and Tony , I know where you are coming from with the 17 year old thing.
My eldest when she was 15 decided she wanted to go and live with her Father in Brisbane. He had emigrated out there a year or so previuosly with his new wife. I was dead against it at her age but to be honest she maid ours lives such a misery that I finally caved in and allowed her to go. She was going over on a 3 month ticket so if she hated it she could come back. I drove her up to Heathrow one Sunday and had to say goodbye to her and send her off around the otherside of the world. As you can imagine I was in bits!
Well last Christmas morning I was getting dressed and there was a knock at the door and in walked my daughter now 17. She had travelled all the way back on her own for a visit. After her months visit was up she decided she wanted to stay so stayed for another month. The lure of Oz was too much though and she went back again at the end of February! I drove her up to Heathrow in bits again!
Well my point to you is tell you daughter that my 17 year old absolutly loves it there and despite coming back for a bit realised it is far better there for her than here. She says the girls are far less bitchy and far more friendly and the guys all love the English accent!
The final bit of this story is, we are now following my daughter out there, because she has sold it to us too! Take care and I now have to convince my 14 year old daughter who does not want to go despite the fact her sister and her father, Nan and Aunty are already there!
Kids eh!

LOL you never can tell what your kids are going to do! Many Aussie kids are absolutely busting to get out of the place once they have finished school/uni because they are bored with it and want to get more out of life. One of mine has gone in the opposite direction - went for a "gap year" after uni and absolutely adores being in UK and, 6 years later, has no intention of returning in the forseeable future because the career opportunities, travel, social events etc are so much better there. So, even if you bring a child here, there is no guarantee that they are going to stay here. It isnt easy however having a kid on the other side of the world but if they are having a good time I guess it is their life they are living!

Quoll well said but I will say if any of them do decide to come back to the Uk I sure as hell won't be going through all this to follow them again.

For everyone hoping thier kids will follow them: Emigrating was my oh idea we went to the gold coast for a holiday in 2006 and I was adamant that to me it was just going to be the holiday of a life time I told him straight I wasnt making any promises at all, well I completely fell in love with the place and was even keener than he was after that and we havent got any family out there at all so there is definately hope yet
